Hi,

I've just made a roughly 10-12 mile drive home and parked up, and when getting out noticed what appeared to be a small line of water coming out from underneath the car. I've never had anything come from the car in this way since I've had it (new in Sept) so had a look underneath.

There appears to be an amount of water dripping off/down a bit of the car around the center (see picture).

I'm bearing in mind that it is very hot, and I've just had the air-con on cold and blowing for the last 20mins or so, so suspect it may be condensation or something.

Can anyone spread any light on the issue?

Thanks

Thanks, I thought as much. I'm a computer engineer not a car one, I can drive but the mechanics of the thing elude me!

As Maxi says, it's condensation from the A/C evaporator - the weather just now is both hot & humid; perfect conditions for this.

I'd be much more worried if you didn't get a puddle under the car after running the A/C in this weather - some folks have had their carpets soaked after the A/C drain became blocked...

Ha I had the same worry a few weeks ago just after I got my 500 serviced at the dealership. Same spot, and I'd been running the air con and driving for an hour or so before parking the car (though it's winter here at the moment, not summer). After doing a lot of googling, I figured it's just the air con condensation.

Strange thing is that it hasn't happened since then, even though I run the air con regularly.

Air con.....

yep, I agree

Our 500 pop hasn't got air con but other car's i've had did have and I remember the first time I saw the puddle and thought wtf! You could also take the taste test :yuck: anybody else remember doing that? you were almost disappointed when it wasn't sweet and it just tasted of...well...driveway :):):)

It's all down to how much moisture there is in the ambient air.

So in a desert, where the air is very dry, you're unlikely to see any visible water. In the good old UK, where just now the humidity is practically off the scale, the evaporator will be dripping buckets.

Basically moisture forms when the surface temperature of the evaporator falls below the dewpoint of the air passing over it.
