Finally got round to adding the chrome bumper inserts to our 500 pop, I've already added the chrome wing mirror covers...it just needed finishing off ;) i applied the front ones a couple weeks ago with 3M auto trim tape and they're fine. I used the fiat adhesive on the reverse as I felt it'd be a little more difficult to position and didn't want to get stuck in the wrong spot !

I used wide Sellotape to hold the wooden chocks against the body work to hold the inserts in place, it was better than using masking tape as that would tear under tension whereas the Sellotape was able to stretch and apply extra tension where needed.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but are the chrome inserts just plastic tabs that stick over the top of the existing body-coloured panels?

Is this the case for the chrome side mirrors as well, or are they completely separate mirror units that you have to install?

Hi 44sunsets, there's no such thing as a silly question on a forum...well I hope not or i've been extremely silly for the last 25 years :)

The front ones that I bought and fitted (Fiat No.50901686) came with the tabs still attached to them which if you had Lounge would act as a straight replacement if they were damaged.

If however you want to apply them to your Pop or Colour Therapy you have to snap the tabs off and smooth off the sharp edges and apply (either with 3M tape or the Fiat adhesive) straight to the preformed shape on the bumper, it is that simple on the front and fairly instant results.

On the back bumper, you have to peel off the black trim (easy as long as you take your time as not to bend it incase you want it again!) before you can apply the new chrome insert (Fiat No.50901687) as it comes with the black part already attached to chrome unit.

I've attached some photos of what she looked like before I fitted the chrome on the bumpers to show you what i mean.

Fitting the chrome caps was easy on the wing mirrors, you turn the mirror to the side, slide your fingers around the back of the mirror, pop the mirror off which then exposes the tabs on the existing mirror caps, push the tabs through and the existing caps come off, carefully line up new chrome cap tabs and push in place, push your mirror back on and job done!

Cheers for the very detailed post -- I have a 500C Lounge, but I might just get myself those shiny chrome mirrors :)

all's good....nothing's fallen off or come loose yet :) I expect they're on for good. I think the chrome door sill protectors are next, the cheapest i've found for originals are (FIAT No.735504060/1) £41.98 from a FIAT dealer on eBay

I ended up bidding and winning with no other bids, a pair of aluminium front tweeter rings to bring a little style to the speakers, these are custom made and cost me less than a tenna, they apparently push into the recess with 3 drops of glue to hold in place and that's it...we'll see if they're any good when they arrive and i'll post some pics when they are fitted...for now here's the photo from the seller on eBay

Now that I like! Looking forward to hearing how you go.

I've also seen chrome rings for the manual heater controls but not for the auto climate control - has anyone any ideas?

Hold fire a week and I'll tell you how good these chrome protectors are because mine are due any day...

£13.63 delivered. I LOVE aliexpress :D

I love the look of the chrome bumper accents. I'm looking out for a cheap single rear on at the moment as Mario's last owner reversed into something and cracked mine. I've currently got a little Italian flag and Chequered flag covering it but ideally I'd like to replace at some point.

I'm sorry but that looks horrid and chintzy. Less is more with 500's

Why be sorry?..."chintzy" not a flower in sight

Anywho, I think It'll look smuckin' fart when they're on and bring a little chrome to, an otherwise plain part of her cabin...it's a Pop so it's missing all the nice bits that the colour therapy, lounge and other versions have...can't wait (y)

I have the whiteboard on my dash so I think putting anything chrome onto it would be a bit much for me personally. My whiteboard is usually scrawled with drawings, rude poems and band logo's but I like the fact it changes. Added to that I'm very forgetful so it's not unusual to see DOCTORS! scrawled on there to remind me I need to be somewhere :D

I appreciate thats not to everyones taste though. I did see a black 500 earlier with Hawaiian Lei's all around the windscreen inside and flowers all over the dash. Now THATS chintz :p

Chintzyness is cheap bits stuck on, like chrome trims where there need not be chrome trims. Chintzyness also feels cheap and these will feel very very cheap for sure.

Boils down to personal taste doesn't it? If we all liked the same things life would be rather dull.

Oh ffs, I hadn't realised that personal taste is a cop out....I've heard some cr@p in my time, thank goodness oranges aren't the only fruit

One of the many charms of the 500 is that no two have to be the same and every owner can personalize his or her car to suit themselves. How boring would it be if we just left them all stock-standard? Might as well all drive Corollas.

I wasn't saying that, I was just saying that there's no need to stick chintzy tat on your car just for the sake of it :)
