Hi all,

Im currently toying with the idea of either fitting hid kits to m 500 sport or upgrading the headlight bulbs, the standard bulbs just seem so poor.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with installing the hid kits on the 500 or what people recommended really, hid kits or bulb upgrades. If bulb upgrades, what make seems to be brightest?

Thanks in advance,

Charlie.

I realise it is each to their own on this one, but I honestly, really cannot see what is wrong with the standard headlamp lights supplied.

We had no issues with our first POP our the TA we have now, the lighting is perfectly adequate imvho. All that happens with HID kits is that they just get up peoples noses because they blind the crap out of other drivers. Sorry, but I spend a lot of time on the road and the worst offenders driving at night are those with intergalactic spaceship lights.

Agree, nothing wrong with the standard headlights, remember if you're lighting up the road miles ahead you'll be blinding oncoming traffic.

I think the main beam light units, being separate from the low beam units, are set too low in the car and don't project far enough up the road, but that won't be cured by fitting HIDs.

I agree, I think the standard bulbs are bright enough to be seeing as far as you need. If you need to see further flick on full beam, when the roads clear.

Cheers, for the input, i spend alot of time motorway driving at night and im well aware of how annoying some peoples lights are etc, ive just ordered a set of night breaker unlimited's for fog, dip and main, these should create an hopefully noticeable improvement without dazzling other oncoming motorists!

Please don't tell me you run around with your fogs on.......

I've had my Nightbreaker Plus bulbs running constantly when driving for nearly a year / 10,000 miles and none have blown. Even if they only lasted a year I would still be more than happy because they make such a huge difference. In the 500 they do little to the dipped beam but totally transform the main beam. In the Ka (H4 bulb) it does the opposite to the 500. The problem the 500 has is the main beam is far too low. Would have made more sense to use H4 bulbs so it would be in with the dipped beam. This would also make it easier for other drivers to see you "flash" them as it won't be battling with the DRL's in the same lamp section. I'm babbling now...

There are some really bright bulbs out there, but with more light comes less life.

Night breaker unlimited us used by some and they say that the light they give is really good.

P.S I hope you ordered two sets of nightbreakers for the dipped beam because they go pop awfully quick!

Agreed, Osram Nightbreakers are good, a real difference in output, but yes they didn't last long for me neither, they are expensive too. When one blew I changed to a pair of Ring long-life versions that have a 3yr guarantee as it is a headlight out job on my other car, so a bit of a pain to change.

I've got them as highbeams and they make a difference there, they were good as low beams but went pop far too soon.

I put Night breakers in the high beams nearly 3 years ago. Big improvement, and they are still going strong. On the strength of that, when a dipped beam bulb blew in our Megane, I replaced them both with Night breakers. One blew after 2 months!

I tried to fit my hid kit from my last car into the 500. Blows the fuse everytime. You'd need to make sure you got a suitable kit to go down the hid route
