About six weeks ago a guy in a van drove into the side of my fiat 500 on a roundabout, whilst he jumped out claiming i was in the wrong lane, i knew i wasnt as i use the roundabout frequently!

Anywho, I now have a large dent on the rear drivers side, above my wheel arch, it looks horrid. Luckily there are no sharp edges.

Even though i know i am in the right, i am worried that the van drivers insurance are'nt going to pay so i am considering other options. Whilst i dont want to pay for it myself, it could end up going that way.

I was wondering if anyone knows about getting these fixed? How the repairers go about repairing this part of the car. Could they go from the inside?

If anyone would like to see a picture of the damage (i cant insert it into the text!) Please let me know and i can email.

Any help would be appreciated as i am quite worried about my little car being fixed!

They'll weld little rods all over the damage and use a slide hammer to pull it out (nowadays they'll have an automatic welding slide hammer dealy). The hundreds of bumps will then be ground and smoothed over with filler. It's a bit brutal really, but once painted, you won't be able to tell (hopefully).

If you really want a 100% repair look for a vintage car restorer whos willing to do full metal repairs. Where possible, I much prefer to replace the panel, but the rear quarter isn't easily changed. Price wise a full metal repair will run about double that of a standard panel shop job.
