Hi

Father Christmas bought me a dash cam so i would like to hardwire it to the cigarette socket.

Can anyone point me in the direction on how to access behind the cigarette socket please?

Thanks

Easier to wire it to your 68R port or ACC from the stereo.

Thanks for your reply.

Any advice on how to do this, new to Fiat so going in blind to be honest?

Thanks

The 68R is the satnav port, you may or may not have one. Not really sure how to get to it other than start pulling panels off.

The radio is probably easier. Do a search or Google on how to remove it. There are a few guides out there.

Thanks guys for your replies!

I am thinking of getting a 12v to 5v USB female to hard wire in and then connect the USB lead from the dash cam directly to it. (would put the link but no allowed until 5 posts)

Still thinking what is going to be the easiest power source to connect to - 68R or the radio or the cigarette lighter socket and what the correct cables are to tap into from both.

By doing this it will be a much cleaner installation.

Not sure whether the voltage from the 68 r port has already been dropped to 5v or if it is done in the satnav holder, I will put a meter on it next time I have the radio out.

Make sure the out feed is high enough for the camera

Some sat navs inly have a 1.2amp 5v charger

Like my current camera it needs a 2amp feed

Dont want any dash fires....

Why notjust plug it into cig socket?

I did think about just plugging it into the cig socket but given it is going to be a permanent feature in the car I want it plumbed in permanently so leaving the cig socket free for anything else.

Which dash cam did you get and is it any good as I fancy buying one to record the frankly ludicrous behaviour of some car drivers I see as I'm driving along....!

I got the mini 0801 camera as it gets good reviews at a good price.

Exactly the same reason, I only had my 500s 3 weeks when the stupidity of someone 2 cars in front resulted in the car behind me taking my back bumper out. The car that caused it just drove off without probably even realising what he caused.

Given my daily commute from Essex into west London every day it is a good guarantee for any further incidents (unless my fault then it will be conveniently not working) :)
