Yeah, if it's playing up in neutral the obviously there's something funny going on.

The point about there being hardly no difference in rolling radius is that there is no change in gearing.

As before, there would be no notable difference in throttle response on a 500 running 15" or 16" wheels and tyres fitted by FIAT, which is what this post is about.

After I made my suggestion, the OP clarified their situation and stated that the issue occurs in neutral which means that obviously there is a sort of lag between throttle input at the pedal and it happening on the throttle body.

Heavier wheels will make a car accelerate more slowly than one with lighter wheels, it's basic physics. If you add 3 kg's to each wheel then that's 12 extra kilos you have to accelerate forward and also 12kg's of rotational mass which is more significant as it makes a bigger difference as you're only considering things like the crank, camshafts, flywheel, geabox internals, tyres, wheels, driveshafts as well as anything else that spins and is connected to the drivetrain.

Obviously a difference in wheels isn't the difference here, but the combination of going from a lounge with a well run in engine to one with bigger wheels and a new engine would make a big difference that some people could consider to be a less responsive throttle. That was why I went down that route.

Just let me clarify, there is a difference when going between different wheel sizes and if you've been driving around on a car with light wheels and skinny tyres and go to a set of heavier wheels with narrow tyres then the car can feel sluggish and less responsive. Obviously that's not the case here though.

The throttle relearn procedure for the Stilo, I think it'd be a good starting point

FFS can we get back on topic and at least try and help the OP, after all everyone agrees that its not the wheels causing his problem.

No, it was just the way it seemed to be mapped and a common problem on the 1.6 Stilo. However I've not heard of any similar issues with the 1.2 500. Never had anything like that on my 1.2 500.
You must have a fixable fault with yours that your dealer needs to sort out.

It may be an issue which can be resolved by having the throttle body relearn done which is easy for anyone to do, it might not do anything on a 500 however!

Is your car auto or manual ? There is a thread on here from dualogic owners with this problem i.e when pulling out into a roundabout the engine would miss a beat as though it was going to stall.

That's happened to me a few times in my Dualogic 500C TwinAir and I think that's due to the car being in the wrong gear (too high a gear I think?), not really a lack of throttle response as such.

re: Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response & Hill Start Issues

I've currently got a brand new (150 miles on the clock) 1.2 Popular while the dealers fix the issues issue with my Abarth 500 that they should have done before I got it (but thats another story!), I have found exactly the same issue with it when pulling away, push the throttle and go to pull off and it bogs right down (almost stalled a few times!) as the revs don't increase then it's like it realises you've pushed the throttle and the revs shoot up to about 3-4k, I just put it down to it being a: very new and tight and b: not as powerful\responsive as my Abarth, maybe they improve once they get a few miles under their belts cos it's actually not to bad for a 1.2 once it's up and moving!
