Having had a few cars in my driving life I have only once been to a dealer to have a service. Never again.

Find a good independent in your area or even a bit further afield of there really good and use them.

Dealers only if it's warranty work for free. And even then try an independent first.

Get the oil checked and ask what they think is wrong with it. If they think it's knackered, ask how much a new one to fit would cost, a referb to fit and a strip down cost.

If there good they will price it all up for you and advise the best solution for you.

I've only joined this forum today so it's great to see how much practical help has been put out on this post.
Have to agree though, it's shocking that such a relatively new and low mileage car is seeing these types of defects. My experience seems to back this up so it's not a one off.

Sadly Fiat and the dealerships I have experienced don't factor customer service into their business proposition. My 09 plated 1.2l 500 pop had it's exhaust rot out 9 months from new and Fiat claimed it was a commestible and not covered by warranty. Since then, I've had three failed coil packs, a fractured door hinge, a broken air intake duct, an engine management problem which will not go away and there is evidence of brown spots under the white paintwork, presumably rust.

The cars have great personality, are good to drive and economical, but are built to a very poor standard indeed. Fiat's refusal to respond to requests for help are making it unlikely that I'll have another Fiat

You have said it all. I feel the same, absolutely shocking after sales customer service.

Grandmoose, from the description in your pm it's probably fallout which is basically little bits of iron in the environment which comes from brake pads and other sources. A good claying and cleaning with something like iron x will remove the particles of iron from the paint.
