Our 500 1.2s is 5 months old now with 2500 miles on the clock so I decided to Fill up with 'Tesco Momentum 99 RON Unleaded'...that was 6 weeks ago.My wife has just filled up again this week with the same Fuel.Having not driven the car much lately I have just driven 20 miles today and can not believe this is just a 1.2! The engine seems quieter than the last time I drove it and very very 'zippy'!
We have a friend who has a one year old 500 1.2Lounge which is the same engine, gearbox etc to our 500.Our friend runs her 500 on std unleaded with a rating of 95 Ron which she buys from a Local Texaco stn.Compairing to two vehicles it is plain to see the performance of the 1.2 engine is better when run on this fuel from Tesco father than std Unleaded Fuel.

Do any of you have any Comments,Thoughts or experiences like this?

I've used Shell V-Power since the start of 2011 when we had our old 1.2 500.

We'd been doing quite a lot of mileage at the turn of that year, and were living with my wife's family for a bit whilst we were searching for a new place, so were using the local garage for petrol.

Anyway, the car was really running rough when cold first thing in the morning, and it wasn't starting particularly well either, so a few months after we moved in I started using V-Power instead to see what it was like.

The two main things I noticed straight off were the improvement in terms of noise, smoothness etc when starting from cold, and also the fact that the car seemed much more spritely pulling away in first or second gear up to say 40mph.

Since we swapped our 500 for a 1.2 Panda last April, it has had V-Power 95% of the time. Performance-wise, it is again very good up to 40-50mph, and it does run smoothly when cold.

As for the extra "power" and improved fuel consumption, it's hard to say. We average around 53-55mpg indicated, and I don't really know whether it would be much worse if we used standard petrol or not. But I am happy paying the extra 8p a litre as my personal feeling is that it does benefit the car.

There are so many differing views of so called performance fuels. Some say it isn't worth it in standard cars. Others swear by it. Then others says that it is all in the mind.

I've always been on the fence. With petrols such as V-Power, Esso Supreme etc I never really found it to be any different, it certainly wasn't noticeable anyway. Maybe the additional claimed detergent properties did some cleaning up though. Some say consumption goes up whereas others say it comes down.

Diesel however seemed to make cars run smoother and reduced clatter but isn't really an economical choice for the mileage I am doing now. I use a splash of Millers EcoMax every now and then but I'm not even sure it really does anything...

I have however just seen that my local Esso garage (cheapest garage around) is being refurbished with new pumps and they are introducing a Supreme diesel so will certainly be interested to see how this is priced and will have to give it a go.

But as for Tesco, I despise the company so rarely go near their stores! Never tried their Momentum 99 however if I remember correctly RobW saying something about a racing organisation no longer endorsing it... or something like that.

Think the effects you get or percieve depend on the quality of fuel you are switching from. I run v power not momentum which I fell into by accident. I had an mot coming up so I filled a tank of v power and gave it the Italian tune up to help on the emissions test. Then I started noticing that my car was running a lot better, it was back to going up local hills in 5th whereas on cheap petrol they'd lately started requiring a down shift. It may be that the cleaning agents in it just got rid of 40k worth of miles of crap from cheap fuel and it'd now do the same on 95 octane asda special. But it definitely helped it back to how it was when I 1st got it.

I always fill up with 98 RON unleaded -- if they offered 99 RON, I'd go with that :D

Definitely feels like the car responds better with the higher grade fuel.
