Have had my second hand 2011 Fiat 500 Lounge (manual petrol) for a few weeks now.

have noticed that there is a gear shift indicator on the dash, but its never come on

Is this something that comes as standard, is it something i need to turn on ( if so where )

Cheers

I don't know about the 500 (it is definitely not on my wife's 500) but I have it on my 2013 Panda. It works okay but one has to ignore it on an uphill because it just sees the allocated revs and indicates a change and on an uphill there is insufficient power at that point. Personally I ignore it but also I can't turn it off.

I just totally ignore it. Its timing to change up a gear is farcical. It is on our 2012 500 Lounge. Not sure this helps you.

Ok. Many thanks. I had something similar on a Nissan and it was useless

The TA is the quietest engine I've owned, so occasionally I might cruise a while in 4th instead of 5th. The light can help remind you. It also comes in handy when coming to a stop, just wait for the light to come on an flick it into neutral (no clutch). This maximises time in DFCO and reduces clutch mechanism wear.

But if accelerating at BSFC, the upshift arrow won't ever come on.
