Just fitted a new battery to my 1.2 Pop.

I did notice both before and after fitting the new battery was that when the right hand indicator is on, the two warning lights above the repeater light on the dash (the engine management warning light and temperature warning light), as well as the left indicator repeater, flash dimly in time with the indicators. Is this a question of "they all do that, sir!" or is this indicative of another problem?

Everything else works just fine, it seems.

Cheers

J

Hi there , sounds like you have a internal fault within your instrument cluster......

Hey guys, just reviving this thread as its the only one I could find with similar symptoms of SWMBO's 500 1.2 Pop 2010.

When the right hand indicator is on the Engine Management lights up in time with it and also the seatbelt light too.

She also gets the Power steering message every so often which I think I read was a software update issue?

Anyway and help would be appreciated, just dont want to stick it into a dealer and get stung if its something I can look at myself.

Thanks in advance. :D

Could be one for a good auto electrician rather then a dealer. You can get funny things happening if you have a partial short or a bad earth somewhere, try checking all connections on the right indicator lights and also that they are dry.

Might sound strange but I'd also check if any bulbs, eg headlight and indicators have blown, or are loose as this can cause weird electrical behaviour too

I went to collect my brand new fiat 500 sport yesterday. On a test drive of the car last Saturday, I noticed that when the right indicator was on all the cluster of lights were also flashed. I told the salesman and he said it was probably a loose connection. On collecting the car and driving out of the garage I noticed the lights were still flashing so I brought it straight back to the garage. After 30 minutes wait, they came back to inform me that the whole speedometer needs to be replaced and it will take 3 working days to arrive. The salesman did not take any notice of my mentioning it last week so did not do anything about it. Needless to say I was very disappointed and said I would think about it over night.

Is this the start of problems with my brand new car? Should I take the car and hope for the best? Day one and already problems? Has anyone experienced this before and had other problems with their fiat 500s.

Welcome to the forum! Are you in Dublin? Who did you buy it off? I've bought an S too and am awaiting delivery over the next week or two. I think the 500's are generally reliable but like any car you can have some one off teething problems. That's annoying though particularly as you pointed it out prior to picking it up. The dealer should do a PDI (pre delivery inspection) on the car and it's unacceptable that they dident pick that up. Anyway it will get sorted and you do have a 5 year warranty so don't get to freaked out about it.:)

Thanks. Yes I am from dublin. I got it in tractamotors. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the dealers as they seem to be in the business a long time. They said they done the dpi before I test drove it but they didn't pick it up. Also the car had another 6 kilometres on the clock yesterday so They must have brought it on another test drive but did not see it. Makes me wonder about the mechanics on the car. The mechanic tried to say that it did not happen all the time but both times I was in the car it happened. Absolutely love the car and will probably not find anything else on the market like it. But I do not want it to break my heart with problems all the time.

Tractamotors are fairly reputable and have sold lots of 500's, I dealt with Gary in there a couple of times in the past. I'd be confident that it will get sorted and that it's a one off. Did you buy the black one they had for sale? - nice! Otherwise the cars are as good or bad as most others and once this is sorted you shouldn't have many problems and you always have the comfort of the warranty so it wont break your heart! I'm getting mine shortly and no doubt it will have a few niggles which will ultimately get sorted!

I know they are reputable and that puts my mind at ease. No the black one was sold. I ordered one. Do you not mind if it has a few niggles? I thought it would be perfect coming out of the garage as it is brand new. Have you owned a 500 before? This is my first brand new car.

Not unusual for a new car to have teething problems, the first 100 miles should highlight any basic manufacturing issues, which is why warranties exist. Hope all goes well from now on!

Yes it should be perfect but I've read enough on this forum to know that's not always the case sadly but also that the issues generally get sorted and you'll have forgotten all about it after a few weeks. I do feel your pain though as it is very frustrating to have to deal with it with a brand new car. I don't want to hog this thread - let us know how you get on and what the actual problem was when you get it sorted as it adds to the pool of knowledge on the forum. You can send me a Private message via the forum if you need any more advice etc if you have no joy with tracta:).

Thread revival time again.....

The engine management light and ABS light flash when the right indicator is on.....I see this is an issue that has arisen before with other owners.

I'm not even going to bother to start looking for a solution myself. Car is booked into a Fiat dealer next week so they can sort it seeing as the car is still firmly within warranty.

Is it not just a bit of light bleeding from the bulb in the indicator through the plastic to adjacent lights?

Lol! Sorry, made me giggle a bit reading your response! No, definitely not a bit of light bleed, other lights are proper flashing and this has only just started. Never did it on our previous 500. Dealer already recognises there's probably a software or sensor issue and will sort under warranty. I don't see why I should start faffing about with it in any way, not even disconnecting the battery. There's a fault, they can fix it!

I occasionally get very dimly lit warning lights showing.
Comes and goes.
Our old UNO all sorts of crazy stuff going on with the electrics. Back then it was 'normal' for a Fiat :D

Update on this issue. Car went into Fiat dealership today, entire dash cluster (pod) changed and problem now fixed.....there was a definite terminal problem with the factory fit cluster.

Interesting to note that the new instrument dash pod is an upgraded version to the original factory fit job. No, it isn't the latest digital pod on the very latest 500's, but a clearly revised pod undoubtedly fitted to the last of the 500's prior to the very latest incarnation. We quite like it, fuel block layout a little different, date/time, ECO and temperature icons all in slightly different positions.

For those unfortunate enough to suffer the issue we have just experienced, it isn't a cheap job, the instrument cluster running into several hundred pounds and of course fitting and mating diagnostically to the car. Just glad it was sorted under warranty, and very quickly/efficiently too without quibble.

The other bonus, our intermittent Stop/Start issue has been sorted (again!), this time thankfully without the need for replacement parts on the climate control system!

Have to say that I don't like the new cluster at all.
