Can anyone tell me if they have experienced the same thing and what it may be? It sounds like a fly buzzing under the dash and it comes and goes every minute or so. The car is brand new and it started as soon as I drove away from the car yard. They are happy to look at it but I haven't been back as yet. I thought it may be something simple I can ask about here.

Unless someone's already heard a similar noise, more detail will be needed.
Some diagnosis can be done by switching everything off except the engine and see if it still buzzes.
Does it do this when moving, stationary, or both?
Does the road surface affect it?
Do you have aircon, and is it on. Is it standard aircon or climate control.
Heater fan?
Does it change pitch if you lightly thump the area it seems to be coming from.

First guess is it could be the aircon gas circulating, but I would describe this as a sort of hiss/squeak.

I see you are in Australia and I've heard you have all sorts of strange creatures there. Could it actually be a trapped insect? And will it sting if you release it?

Does it happen when you're taking the key out of the ignition barrel?

I have a similar noise on my twinair. Its a delicate noise and sounds like a little fly.

There are some circumstances which will cause the ABS modulator will cycle - this produces a similar sound. Another source of a humming noise you will sometimes notice is when the fuel pump pressurises the fuel rail.

It seems to be when gears are about to change either up or down (automatic clutch maybe?)

So yours is a dualogic. The clutch is operated by a servo, it is probably this you can hear. All normal.

All normal? Ok ;-)

I had the buzzing in my old manual 1.2 sport since I got it, never got to the bottom of it despite investigations and diagnostics, had it for over 3.5 years! Now I have a manual twinair 0.9 S and I can't hear it! Also driven different 500s and pandas as courtesy cars and they had the same noise! Hope that helps!

My sister just bought her fiat pop 500 two weeks ago and was loving it. Unfortunately, soon thereafter there was a buzzing sound coming from the dashboard that she described as a fly or bee like. It stayed this way for a week. Then she finally brought it in to the dealer, who after 2 hours had discovered it to be a AC cable clip that was hitting the firewall. Viola, very professional service and the car she loves is back in action with no more buzzing. I'm posting this for anyone whose dealer was unable to determine what the problem was, perhaps a call to the support team at San Diego fiat in national city can help alleviate any troubles your having...
