General Australian 500 owners!

McCarroll's in Artarmon/Roseville. I live in the South-west Sydney area -- I bought a long way away from home because I heard these guys were the best FIAT/Alfa Romeo dealer in Sydney. Heh. (n)

Honestly, I have a pretty low view of all dealerships these days.

If it makes you feel any better (or possibly worse) I stayed local to Southern Sydney and I'm still not hugely impressed. Can't say I'm enthused for any future dealings.

Hi guys,

Any Aussie owners out there? Just placed an order for a pop auto in pastel sole yellow with ivory and red interior.

:)
Does a soon-to-be 500 Sport owner count - Picking up a red one in Jan 14. Keen to meet other OZ 500 owners as there doesn't seem to be a dedicated 500 only club down under

Why take it to a specialist other than for things like cambelt changes?
OK lets start

Technicians that have only have worked on Italian cars

Hourly rates lower

They can get parts cheaper than the dealers charge

Happy to accept owner provided parts (we in Oz pay outrageous prices for dealer provided parts - far, far cheaper to buy and ship from the UK)

And you get to talk about car stuff !!!

it's a modern car, aside from belts there's nothing any decent mechanic shouldn't be able to do.

How about things like Dualogic gearbox maintenance? And adjusting the clutch in the Dualogic etc? I don't know much about them but is it fairly straightforward, or does it need attention from FIAT factory trained mechanics?

:yeahthat:

Unless you've a remote clutch master cylinder like the Bravo Dualogic, and the fluid has to be changed every other year, all <40ml of it.

The 500 I believe is the same as the Panda Dualogic though so this doesn't apply clutch auto adjusts for wear and only needs to be reset when replaced.

Maxi, Maxi Maxi....

You need to visit Oz some more. You may have forgotten that local Australian mechanics struggle with anything without pushrods, carbys, leaf springs and a rear diff. but I must admit that some local ones do know how to change the oil on a 'rolla (local slang for a Corolla - not a RR)

Seriously - I have experienced latent hostility the few times I took my Italian cars to a general mechanic ..... that was before I learnt my lesson

I can change the oil and filters in my 500, i have 0 mechanical training.

Perhaps try a mechanic whose knuckles don't drag on the ground!

Hi Lads

I collect my Pompei Grey (dark metallic grey) Duologic Pop on Tuesday. What all this about long delivery times??? Walked into dealer Thursday and said I'll have one of the $14k drive away models please. He said sign here, what colour - yellow, white, grey, light grey, red or baby blue. All just sitting there...

Took the grey. Doing pre-deilvery on it now, can't wait. By all accounts its going to be a hoot to drive!

Going to look for a local Adelaide Fiat club to join too. Always been in car cubs, met a heap of good people.

Regards

Peter

I really love the dark metallic grey.

I would assume it's because they just got a shipment in recently. There seems to be more dualogics around than manuals as well, so I waited for my purple manual.

Good luck next Tuesday, bet you can't wait!

Depends on what you were after... I got mine with in 3 days...

I went dual logic because I considered resale ability... And over manual in stop start traffic.

Hello from Melbourne. Well done, bet you can't wait! My order is taking months and months- ordered a 500S with factory sunroof, none in the country at the time so special factory order. Hope to take delivery sometime in Feb.

Noice! :D How much did you end up paying in total -- I'm assuming the $14K driveaway is only for the manual version, not Dualogic?

Correct, $14 is for manual. $15,500 was price with metallic paint. I looked on carsales.com.au and that seemed to be universal price. Dealer wouldn't budge cos that was "set pricing" from Fiat.

Not fussed though, it's a fair price for what I get, I desperately needed a car asvi just sold my previous one, and it's a business car so I write it all off on tax.

I saw on TV Hyundai advertising an i20 auto 3door hatch drive away for $14,999. For $500 more I got looks, character, style and a great car.
