General It gets worse... Fiat 500L MPW revealed (Fiat 500XL)

Is the Punto really going? i thought that was just some rumour started by some bloke on the internet

Was it? But it has been around for a while now, and it isn't considered competitive now that the Clio and practically all the competition has been replaced. Only its sibling, the Corsa, is still from the same generation - I think.

But I saw an Abarth version steaming past the other day and it looked wonderful, with a great stance and a real dynamic tension.

So....doesn't look like it's gone down too well on here!

FWIW, I do think this car could sell OK provided it's priced accordingly. The 1.4 500L Pop Star can be bought for just over £15k - I have no idea what FIAT plan to do with the 500XL in terms of prices, but if it comes in under £20k then it has a decent chance.

I've sat in a 500L and it really is a terrifically practical car, particularly given that it is only marginally longer than a Punto (which in itself is bonkers!). According to the report, the 500XL has even more space. Whether that space is usable or not for a family of six or seven remains to be seen.

I wouldn't buy one in a million years, but I am not in the target market anyway. Add another three kids to our family and I might be interested...although, on reflection, probably not!:D

please elaborate on these alleged flaws

#1 There isn't any space for the clutch foot to rest, except under the pedal. This real inconvenience is mirrored in the Giulietta and the Delta, which share the same basic floorpan, with lengthening modifications in the Delta's case. For me and many others with size 10 and above feet this failure of design makes for a very uncomfortable drive and kills any possible ownership prospects.

#2 The rear legroom is very poor, in fact no better than in the smaller Punto, which manages to provide sufficient room in the pedal box as well.

#3 The relationship between the placement of the gear lever and the wheel and pedals is typically Italian, and not in a good way.

In fact I think the Punto does pretty much everything the Bravo does.

I saw a Bravo yesterday as a matter of fact and as always it is a very pretty car, but as I said, too flawed.

5+2 seaters are pretty useless as a family car as if you have a full complement of passengers there is no luggage space!
you would need a trailer...

i used to have a Zafira company car and i would say i used the 'jump seats' 3 or 4 times in as many years for the odd day outing, but no use at all for things like airport runs or holidays

i guess some may end up being converted into an accessable taxi?

thats why i dont experience these 'flaws' I am 5'7" and size 8 feet, am used to the 'Italian driving position' all my life and i tend not to sit in the rear

There you go then .... This explains why you find the Bravo comfortable, but for taller people the car is uncomfortable. Most of my friends are 5'10" to 6'6", which is pretty commonplace these days. But the Bravo is meant to be a five seater, not a 2+2.

The 500L is huge inside and has plenty of room for feet. I'm not convinced by the placement of the gear lever, but hey; it's a Fiat! :p:D

the punto was replaced first back in 2006 with the grande the rest are just catching up

500L MPW best fiat I have ever had !!!! Drives like a gem changes gear correctly and is very economical it's even cheaper than a Punto EVo

Lets not overreact, a fair few people actually brought a Multipla and the Nissan Juke :p

There is a need for vehicles like this, and I guess Fiat just want to be able to supply what might be wanted by tacking on some of the style of the 500.

It doesn't work for me, but I'm sure they would sell some.

Never seen one in real life as they are not sold in Australia, but looks the odd love-child of a 500 mating with Mini.

I've seen a few driving around in my area (USA) and looked at one at the studio. I thought that they look a lot better in person than in the pictures. I'd definitely consider one as a replacement to my Kia Rondo (not sure what that's sold as abroad).
