We bought our new Fiat 1.2 Lounge in may 2013, the prize was discounted about 25 % (choice between white and red colours). This makes me believe there is model change coming for 2014, the US 500 has lots of improvements compared to original the European, not the least sound proofing, suspension and security. Is any of this already in production "here" or do you think it will be in a facelift ?

The 500S is the current facelift.
If and when the new 500 comes here the 1.2 going to struggle up hills. North American model weights 1074kgs compared with the 930kgs of the 1.4 or TA. A bit like carrying 2 additional people in the car - it will blunt performance. Can't imagine what the economy will be like on the TA since its weight sensitive. Not too sure if it will be much of an overall improvement and IMHO it will need the MA 1.4 engine to do it justice or better still a light pressure turbo like the 500T model. This will make it more expensive and contradicts the concept of a 'small' car.
So maybe what you have is a good as it gets.

Surpriced of the weight of the US model ! Yes, you are right, a heavier car is not a wish at all. In Sweden the 500 has been exempted from road tax because of low emissions, I certainly bought it for reasons of economy.

I would not think that your discount has anything to do with a face lift - much too far in advance of a 2014 MY to be reducing prices in May 2013. They'd only do that if there was good knowledge of the new model which was having an impact on sales.

I suspect your discount was due to other reasons (such as over supply or the dealer needing to secure sales to hit a target).

Yes :) A deal we could not resist, the first car I have bought new with my own money. It cost 113000 Skr for a lounge 1.2 with start&stop, heated seats, all the airbags ( about 10700 £ ). Included is the 25 % sales tax. Normally the list price is negotiable though, if you are good at it...
The best thing with the Fiat 500 is its style and solid quality, the ride is nice in town and at low speed, the noise gets at bit disturbing on the road, but I compare to a Mercedes E 200 :)
