I'm not convinced I would take style tips from Liverpudlian minicab drivers personally....

Lol, if they are anything like Glasgow cab drivers you should stay away from their advice lol
I see them up here and they only use them so they can smoke when they are not meant to lol
And yes i do have them on mine but they were on the car when i bought it, i personally prefer using the climate control :p

JRKitching - what is the mpg damage/benefit of these deflectors do you think, compared to having no deflectors and (i) the windows closed and (ii) the windows an inch or two?

Could anyone who has them tell me if they do as advertised and keep the weather out while letting the air in. Do you use them or are they just a 'fad'.

Sorry for the late reply. See this post (and the one that follows it) for my thoughts on the subject....

The answer to your first question, though, is a qualified "yes"...!

In other words: they work to a certain extent... -- in that you still get a bit of wind noise, of course (proportional to speed); but, on a hot day (especially in a car with no air-con, like the Punto), the air they let in (with no rain -- if your windows are cranked open just the right amount...) is a blessed relief.... I have to say that the direct air vents on a Mk2 Panda are much more effective, though...! :D

PS: I know you've seen the Punto in the flesh, but there are some piccies showing the deflectors in all their glory here...! (y)

I've been thinking about this, some may remember the Ritmo Strada 'Energy Saving', along with having the first ever Start & Stop, it had flush front window deflectors.

However, on a modern car the airflow around the windows is already fairly smooth and any (possible) tiny benefit to Cd would be easily offset by the increase to CdA. At any rate, you'd have to be keen to measure any difference. If you often drive with the windows cracked you'll likely have a (immeasurable) gain, but if you can save A/C use by preventing fogging, there could be gains to be had (which will be offset at all other times).

No idea, except that they will reduce mpg & it will be speed dependent. In town, any difference will likely be too small to measure, but at motorway speeds, it could be significantly worse.

A general rule of thumb is that below 50mph, it's more economical to open the windows than run the A/C; above 50mph, the reverse is true.

Look really cool and hope you enjoy them :)
I've just taken mine off a bravo and think the car now looks better and actually shows that each to their own is a very good phrase
