I bought a 58 plate 500 last April. During last summer when I switched the ignition on I had Gearbox Not Available flash on the display. After taking it back to the dealer and new brake pads etc fitted it all seemed fine.
Recently on 2 occasions when I've been driving and have had to brake harder than normal, the car has out itself into N and will not let me select any gears or change it to manual. I've had to turn off the engine and back on to try to fix the problem. Both times I have been stuck in the road unable to move the car for a few minutes until the Gearbox sorts itself out. Does anyone else have these problems??? I love the car but these problems don't give me much faith in it.

No, no other warnings at all. No light symbols are displayed, just the message in the centre of the dial.

There should be a fault code stored in the ECU, need to get it read ideally (y)

I'll call the Fiat dealer to ask them to look at it when I'm off work next, although last time when it said Gearbox Error from stationary, they said they didn't know what the fault was from the ECU

It says 'Operation not possible'??? Won't let me move it out of N, in auto or manual.

If it was me I'd take a picture of the message. Then disconnect the battery removing one of the terminals for a few minutes & re-connect. See if it clears the message so that you can re-engage.

Oh ok. I was on the A38 at the time and it was quite busy. I'll see what the garage says. Thank you
