If I was buying a 1.4 again I would look for a euro 5 140 grs model. Not too pushed about the S/S. Plenty of threads on the FF on colours specs etc. The leather unless it's the newer one doesn't last the test of time with a noticeable sag on the driver's seat. Would strongly suggest getting a drive in a 500 to see if it is what you want. The 1.4 is a satisfying engine when it's in that narrow 'power' band and the 6 speed gearbox is a gem.

I think if economy is at all a concern, you should avoid the 1.4 (non-Turbo), as it's not really in the same league as the others. I understand that even the Abarth (1.4 Turbo of course) driven gently can beat the economy of the 1.4.

From my 1.4 I used to get just under 40mpg on average, and that's driving economically. In England driving a 1.2, I averaged nearly 50mpg.

The 1.2 will be your best buy economy-wise but the more expensive TwinAir might be more fun to drive (I haven't driven one).

This is all just my opinion, of course :)

Hello, if you really like the 1.4 you should get it although I think that money for a 5 year old car may be pushing it. Not to worry about long lasting car though, because the 1.4 is a good long lasting engine. It will have the old suspension though, so you probably would need to change all the suspension to have a good handling car with the 1.4.

It has basically the same mileage as my 1.4 and the engine is singing very nicely so I guess the engine would be the least of your worries?
I have the 140 km/g (g/km? I am no good with Eurobureaucracy) but I know I have the new Euro 5 one without the SS so 140 it is.

Unless you do 1000000 miles the difference in money for petrol of the 1.4 and 1.2 is not exactly the end of the world.

It's on the money as far as book value is concerned, but I'd agree with you that current secondhand 500 prices are ludicrously high. The price of buying a desirable, fashionable car, I guess.

You can get a 1.4 Panda 100HP with the same age & mileage for about 2/3rds of the price; the drive & performance will be almost identical :).

Had a quick look on autotrader and noticed that the Twin Airs can be got from £7K for a 2011 model. This is cheaper than the TA 2010 book value so prices appear to be dropping. It would be worth spending an extra £1K over a 2008 1.4 model. Getting a Euro 5 1.4 isn't that easy - quite a number of the up in the years model using the Euro 4 engine. Did notice a '09 Euro 5 bydiesel 1.4 up there but it was a little pricey for the mileage.

I have a !.3 mjd, 75 bhp version but it has been remap. I have a 58 mile each way commute on the M1 and M25 and if I keep at a constant 55mph I can achieve 70 mpg for a tank of fuel. That is measured by brimming the tank at each fill, the dash said 83 mpg.
