Dear All.

It is with sadness, regret and a rather large amount of pent up anger
that I announce the demise of my 500 named Richard by a fellow forumer.

Many here will know of the trials and tribulations regarding this car and its gear box (Hence the name) back in December 2010. (Original thread here https://www.fiatforum.com/500/255665-...appointed.html)

Whilst the car turned out to be a lovely drive and great fun for the last two and a bit years . . . some theiving scumbag (The language I'd like to use is not suitable here!!) decided to steal mine on Wed's. With only 18000 miles on it!
For what its worth, the police have said that its already in bits or in a container being shipped somewhere. Also said that quite a few have gone missing recently. Apparently, they just cut the handbrake cables and lift them.

Guys and gals. . . beware. Just goes to show that no matter what security you have on it - if they wants it they'll take it.

So now the battle with the insurance company begins.

I will be going for another 500 when I get paid out. . .

You gotta love em eh? :)

Sorry to hear that! Shows you how dangerous the UK is these days and that sometimes the law isn't tough enough. Hope the insurance gives you a decent payout quickly.

Sorry to hear. Hope it gets sorted for you with minimum fuss. Will you buy another 500. Richard the 2nd maybe ; )

....Richard the 2nd maybe)

All being well, It was such a great little car to drive. Best fuel economy I had out of it (According to the average fuel consumption was apparently 72mpg), cant imagine that it was correct, but made me grin though.

Its just all the hassle to go through now. . . and, if its declared a total loss, I can't put my personalised plate back on a car for 12 months... Aaaaaaaaaaargh

Sorry to hear that it's gone,

Cutting the cable + towing away has been the "professional" method for 10 years now,
that'll be going to a farm in the middle -of-nowhere to be de-alarmed + stripped,

I hope you get sense from the insurance, :bang:
Charlie

My sympathies. I hope you get a good result insurance-wise and cxan turn a negative into a positive. Once the dust is settled and the insurance paid... you get to choose a new 500! :) Hope the future is bright for you!

Just seen a 500S in Pasodoble Red - I think I'm in love . . .:D

Sorry to hear this (n)

I take it you didn't have a tracker fitted?

This sucks, I'd be so annoyed! :(
No tracker fitted. In my naivety I thought modern cars were slightly more secure than when I was in the motor trade back in prehistoric times.
Lets face it, the 500 is no Ford Escort that could've been started with a hair clip....Next one will have a tracker, so if anyone can recommend one, or a reputable cost efficient option - please let me know.

Am I angry? Hell yes, in fact mightily pi**ed off, or rather I was. In the cold light of day whatever way you look at it, whilst bloody inconvenient, at least the car wasn't taken forcibly from the wife or daughters. No one got hurt which is more important.....

True, but personally if my 500 gets stolen and has been thrashed by some bellend or partially disassembled then I don't want it back.

I would have to agree. Nobody gets to drive my car other than me. Imagine getting it back after some moron has been in it. Seems less hassle all round just to get the insurance money and start afresh.
This is merely my opinion.

The idea is you'd get Richard back as soon as stolen really, usually within 24 hours, what can possibly be done in that time?

I agree, but having spoken to an Essex Traffic Officer (Police, not Highways Agency) his opinion is that if it's been stolen to order, they've already booked passage on a boat with 'new' plates and thats it. . .gone! tracker or no tracker - The Jury's still out regarding the fitting of one. I will sing the praises of return to invoice GAP insurance though, more so with a new car. I got everything back bar the £350 excess. Thats not bad depreciation on a 2½ year old car.

Now the good news. Richard (Gere) box is dead, long live . . .the 500S

Took delivery of my replacement yesterday. I pretty much nailed the saleman to the wall. I managed to get Floormats, Supagard (Yeah I know there's a debate about whether thats worth it. . .) Side rubbing strip which is to be fitted, Red paint, the 16" rims and front fogs for the basic on the road price - I think they felt sorry for me :ROFLMAO:, either that or they wanted to get rid of me!

So like the last one this one needs a name. . . over to you Fiat Forumers

Regards

Hmm....Richard Diablo? The missus hated the name Richard, I guess it'd be rude not include Richard in the name again :D
