Actually they're fairly good here, used to work for the County Council and this building is one of the few Council run ones full of competent people who can do a decent job.

Denbighshire MOT depot in Bodelwyddan :) A little more expensive at £51, but I knew they didn't use 4 post lifts, they have shedloads of availability and the guys there are nice. I used to work for the county council and tbh have very little trust in their ability to do pretty much anything, but the MOT depot seemed to be the one thing that was run well :)

58 plate 1.2 sport. 30,000 miles

MOT number 3 Failed.

Reasons for refusal of a test certificate.

001 Front brake pad(s) less than 1.5mm thick [3.5.1g]
002 Front brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened [3.5.1i]

Advisory Items.

003 Back box in poor condition.

I had pre empted the failure and the car had a full service while
it was with my indy anyway. I supplied all the parts and sundries,
NGK spark plugs, OEM oil, air and pollen filter, Pagid front discs and pads
ATE Super blue racing brake fluid. And Castrol Edge fully synthetic oil.
Paid £180 all in for the service, brake fluid service and disc and pad
change and the MOT itself and just over £110 for the parts and materials.
Considering Fiat wanted to charge me £250 for a service and a further
£40 for the MOT I 'm very happy with the price I paid as I got the brakes
overhauled and changed for the same money.

Brake fluid has never been changed since the car was new and Mrs grr
reported on her way home that the brakes felt sharper which bodes well
as the new discs and pads aren't bedded in at all yet.

The Pagid stuff is great in my experience, when the discs and pads need
doing on my car I'll be buying Pagid (My front discs are 345mm vented
and rears 310mm vented.) Not least because the discs are painted
and the service areas of the brake discs are cleaned of paint
after a few applications whereas the non service areas remain painted
and going by the last set I had will be resistant to rust for at least a
year and a half. That's good. I wash my cars a lot. I've also taken
the Pagid discs and pads on the track at Castle combe on my last car
and they did a great job under some very heavy and repeated braking.

Anyhoo, back on topic. All passed now with just the advisory for back box
remaining and it will be going in for a custom stainless cat back system to
ensure this won't be an issue again.

How did you fail the mot if you preempted it with having the discs and pads done?
They did the MOT before the maintenance work and brake change.
I knew they would fail but the tester didnt as it was the first time he's
ever seen the car. It was re tested after the work was carried out.

I can't see it makes a lot of odds really, I now have a years MOT, they have a fail
to go on their test station stats. But in answer to your question, the car was booked
in for first test of the day, the tester isn't the same guy that worked on the car.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest as long as the end result is the right one.
And by default it sort of shows on the MOT records now that the work has been
done. As it passed when re tested on the same day.

Mot before the service is vosas preferred way of doing things oddly, also if it fails it will highlight work for the service rather than hitting the shop twice if they miss something.

Edit: also if its an older car and fails miserably on a none serviceable part or uneconomic to replace part (lets say the floor pan looks like swiss cheese or the emissions are all to cock due to a knackered cat) you aren't still springing for a service when your scrapping it.

Second MOT today passed with no advisories. Bit different from last year and the fail because of a broken rear suspension mount and an advisory on the front struts.

Spike

My 2nd MOT is due this month, and the last one passed with an advisory of a split breather hose, now theres a surprise :D I did not let the Fiat garage do that work, because I feel its a reasonable job I could undertake, but check as I might I cannot find by visual or feel any split pipe !

Is it possible to see or feel the breather hose without dismantling the top air filter box ect. Vehicle 1.2 pop 59 plate 9500 miles. Have recently completed an oil change and filter, easy peasy.
