I have just purchased a 500C and as part of the deal I got a wind deflector for the rear of the car. This was not available when I picked up the car so I drove it without the deflector over the weekend (with the roof down ;)). I picked the deflector up this morning and tried with the roof down again. If I am honest I am not sure what Fiat are charging £100+ for as I noticed no significant decrease in buffeting or noise (one of the claims in the catalog is it enhances the stereo delivery when the roof is down, well I have the interscope which more than copes with any noise from outside the car :D).
I have come to the conclusion that it is there more for styling than any practical use so would advise anyone shelling out their hard earned to buy one that there are better things to spend your £100+ on. (unless you're after the styling/lifestyle angle)

I will be monitoring this as the weather gets better and report back if my opinion changes.

As said it was chucked in the deal so I'll let it sit there until it annoys me then into the garage it goes ;). I can't see how it would work for the front seats as its too far away. It may work for the rear passengers, but I don't carry them very often .

On convertible cars I have driven they work at higher speeds and they have always been in 2 seater cars...as you say they will probably be better for the rear passengers.

All to do with aerodynamics ;)

Ever been in the front of a car with rear windows open causing a buffeting effect? Suddenly shut them and it goes, even though they're the rear windows and not the front, still affect front passengers.

My car has an air deflector which quietens the cabin considerably, enables full enjoyment of the in-car entertainment system, deflects 100% of the rain and eliminates wind buffet completely,

It's called a roof :).

Strangely enough JR so has mine :p , luckily for me I also have the option of not having a roof. An operation which in my cars case is reversible ;) .
