I bought a second hand 1.2 pop in may 2012 and now are getting start stop issues.
Started with start stop yellow indicator on display and sometimes showing start stop unavailable written form on dash below clock and sometimes yellow triangle fault light on display.
Took car to fiat as car is still under warranty car registered 28 October 2010 and run a software update and problems went away.
But now sometimes getting problems saying on dash written form start stop unavailable and engine stall as I slow car down.

Still love this little,the wife's

Any thoughts would be very appreciated

Many thanks Carlo

Not sure on the technical side.

On a practical level, because of the short time until your warrant expires you should write a letter to your dealership, cc Fiat HQ, confirming this as a warranty claim. You should also say that it will remain pending until a reasonable time after the necessary repairs have been performed.

I.e., don't let them off the hook after 28 October. you have an issue now, it needs resolving properly and permanently, even if that takes until after the warranty expires.

Thank you for quick response I bought this car though another dealer and they are aware of problem but I have been asked to monitor situation for a few days, but yes I am going to contact fiat HQ ASAP

Thanks again

hi,

anyone has newer updates on this issue?
just got this similar issue on my 2013/1 fiat 500 with 0.9L engine ..

any suggestions what would be the caused?

Thank you.

Has your SS been operating normally up till now or has it been re-starting prematurely, such as within 30 seconds or so after stopping? It might be your battery, especially if it's the original.

From what I've gathered stop start unavailable is usually due to poor battery performance even if it will start the car fine looks like once the battery is about 30 months old that's it, bit crazy.

Do you have the stalling issue? check all the usual things new spark plugs air filter look for loose or detached wires and pipes/breather hoses, have any fault codes read even if the EML light is not on.

I've got a 6 year old Lounge 0.9, and since I retired last summer it's tended to be used less regularly, and on shorter runs. The stop/start stopped operating a few weeks ago, but worked again after a couple of longer runs, albeit the engine only stopped for around 20s. The last time this happened was in a queue, then after a further minute of being stationary with the engine running, the engine switched off with the message "Stop Start Unavailable" displayed. I used the key and the car re-started immediately. It hasn't repeated this. I suspect strange things start to happen when the battery is past its best.

Thank you all for the quick reply.

SS is not working right after cranking.. check engine light, saying, SS is not available. (I usually drive without SS already, and it's disabled before CEL pops)

Car feels lack of power. still drives. just pick up speed slowly.
Idle is a bit jumpy. and i think problem gets more serious as it goes.. when getting to full stop .. during auto downshift from gear2 to gear1, the engine knocks a bit/close to stalling feel ..a bad hiccup ..or ..chocking on an potato feel .. XD

I picked up a Bluetooth Elm327 dongle last night ..couldn't get Multiecuscan to work yet ..but quick Torque scan shows the following error:

P0244
Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid A Range/Performance

can someone show me where is this solenoid? which connections / vacuum line i can check?

Thank you.:worship:

car background:
roughly 91000km on the odometer right now
bone stock, except with KN filter ..
recently added the android car stereo system ..(wondering if this messed up the electrical related to turbo solenoid?)

Your 1.2 doesn't have a Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid A.

Why it's throwing that code I have no idea.

A weak battery may cause the alternator to have to do more work, and this can sap a surprising amount of power from a small engine. The easiest thing you can do is disconnect the battery, charge it up properly and if the problems go a way, replace the battery as they'll no doubt come back soon.

Hi UFI,

I have a 0.9L Twinair Turbo. I am not the original owner of this post ^^

i'll try to take a look of the area about the turbo ..see if there is a loose connection, or, possibly remove the turbo unit for some clean up ..

just don't know what to watch out, and how to clean.. will WD40 be suitable for the possible internal part of the waste-gate and so on .. or i should use carburetor cleaner ..

thank you

still battling with P0244 error code
car runs rougher .. and knocks itself to shut off engine during full stop now ^^

took apart the cover, try to understand how that turbo assembly work ..no ideas yet .. and don't know where to look at ..(bolts to the heat cover at the front is a pain to take off .. )

new observations:
1. i cleared codes with scantool.net for windows 1.13, car runs fined for quite good mileages until a steep hill .. then CEL was on, lost power and etc.

2. i topped off some engine oil ..as i am wondering if it's related to the insufficient oil? --> got me wonder, are the turbo or wastegate solenoid engine oil lubricated??

3. based on p0244 info explained, it compares data to the MAP and DARO ..
both of the above sensor reads out 29.8(something, forgot the unit) ..so i suppose these 2 sensors are not the culprits ..

Check your hoses too for splits and leaks with the engine running. My twinair was only a few months old and a turbo hose was discovered to be leaking at the Fiat health check.

thank you for the suggestion.

but which hose should i look at? i can't quite figure out where goes to where yet .. originally wish i can take apart the turbo/wastegate to clean it up ..
but space is too tight, and seems like i need to take front bumper/frame off to gain access @_@ .. it's my Daily car. .so .. pretty much limp to work every day ..:bang:

i tried verifying the host connected directly to the manifold .. seems fine (by eye observation, and hand wiggling for lose joint) ..

am i able to use the Torque APP, and spot some vacuum leak from one of those live gauge??

thank you. Appreciate members' viewing and commenting..

I'm afraid I don't know. Changing a wheel is my limit these days. The work was done by Fiat but a slight pressure leak can cause lots of problems as these engines are so complicated and finely tuned.

thank you Ronmanager.

will keep troubleshooting i guess ..
perhaps it's really electrical related .. i had the car running fine for 2 days ..over 200km of travel, and error pops up again ..once again on uphill ..

so i suspect, perhaps during uphill, gas down more, it requires more current? yet it couldn't provide enough to the solenoid .. hence causing error ..

just to follow up on the issue ..

i found a broken pipe .. i think it's connected to the intercooler ..

don't know the part#, so i used tape to temporary wrapped up the hole ..
car's being driven for over 700 km without P0244 errors ..
so guess this should be the culprit .. FYI

Hi first time poster, not a mechanic

Been struggling with this on mine for a long time

Been in and out of the garage, cost me a bomb, nothing worked .......

Checked the water reservoir, found one of the plastic joints for the return water had a small hairline crack on it underneath .. ....upon further investigation found it was spraying out a fine mist of water into the engine and onto the top lining.......checked my plugs and coil packs and loads of water in them , water everywhere in the engine

Changed the water reservoir cleaned the plugs and sucked up excess water and guess what , no longer cuts out

Honestly this has had me so stressed as money is tight
I hope this helps someone else

Check the plastic bit your pipes connect to on your water reservoir ........it's worked for me
