Never had the pleasure of a brand new car, but thinking of treating myself to a fiat 500. My hubby and 2 boys are keen to offer advice about what they like etc. colour, trim and model...but l am becoming more and more bakffled by all the options on offer. l had narrowed it down to a Lounge1.2 but looking at the deals a twin air with lower APR may be better? Do they drive differently? ls it worth test driving one, against the Lounge 1.2? Not too sure other than road tax how it will be different!
Colour wise l like the Volare blue..but it is very 'visable' when 'out and about'..thinking that the Pasodoble red might be a better choice. l looked at the colour therapy first but like the spec. of the lounge better.
Any advice about buying the car.etc. would be appreciated.. and l was also keen to put a spoiler on it, would that look odd?

Hi Apprentice!

I too am in the first stages of choosing a 500. Today I test drove the Lounge 1.2 and Lounge Twinair. They are both very sifferent cars and worth testing against each other. Volare blue is a great colour choice for either - and a spoiler would look great on it too, I think.

"Visible" is, I suspect, what the 500 is all about! :D

Twinair and Lounge drive very differently. TA is sporty and naughty. If you enjoy driving for itself and are not too fussed over purchase price and running costs, you want the TA. Otherwise go for the 1.2 as it is cheaper to buy and run. DRIVE BOTH (preferably back to back).

Volare blue is gorgeous. Not really sure what you mean by "invisible" - are you talking safety or showing off? On either score I would not be concerned. Volare is lovely.

I have the Volare Blue.. I've decided the Blue is 'as blue as the pink is pink' which I know sounds stupid, but it's that sort of shade which stands out in much the same way as the pink does.. especially as, around my way, Volare Blue is quite a rare colour.
I was swaying between the red and blue in much the same way as you, went for blue and am really happy with my choice. Just remember its your car, don't worry about being visible or invisible, just go with what you like. Good luck, I am sure that whatever you choose, you will be very happy with your choice!

I drove both and chose the Twinair engine because of the considerable performance difference, and I liked the character and sound of the engine. After 18 months I've worked out the best way to drive it, and can get 50mpg+ on my work commute with no particular effort. However, it's not for everyone. The 1.2 is a nice smooth, flexible engine, and as Maxi says, is probably easier to achieve better economy in. It's also quite a lot cheaper than the TA. Best to try both and make your own mind up.

I think you just accused me of being Maxi. Moderators - infraction!!!!

If you pootle around and aren't fussed about a little less acceleration then get the 1.2, if you want a bit more oomph and to be a bit nippier then get a twin air. Either way you should definitely test drive them both, on back to back drives.

Whoops, sorry Robin and Maxi - I think I posted just after reading another thread containing wise words from Maxi! I suspect you'd both be in agreement on this issue, though.
