General Flashing Oil light - how to reset

My 08 1.3mjet 500 is going in for a new sump and oil change on the 14th. I have multi ecu scan. I'll take a screenshot before and after the work to see if the mechanic reset the counter. I'll try the pedal pumping and take another screenshot afterwards.

Resetting the oil degradation status is a necessary part of the job of carrying out an oil change on a DPF-equipped car and failing to do so could lead to some expensive problems later. If I had taken such a vehicle for an oil & filter change and this was not done, I'd refuse to pay.

We are taking ours for an oil and filter change as the flashing oil light is on. We buy the parts and a local guy does the change for £10, and he says he will get the counter reset (y)

I'll report back how it goes and if he had any problems resetting .

So we had the car serviced. We had the flashing oil light plus the check glow plugs, on start up. I bought glow plugs, oil, air and oil filters from Eurocar parts during one of their online sales £70 in total. Then for £40 my local guy changed everything including resetting the warning lights via his laptop.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to speak to him about the resetting process as he was with another customer, when I picked it up. But, surprise surprise, the passenger door handle broke the other week, he said if I get the new hinge he'll change it for me. Maybe I'll get to ask him then :)

Reset oil light after service... that is very important. And don't skip the oil change either.

1-turn on the ignition key,
2-press the gas pedal and hold it,
3-press the brake pedal 7 times without relesing the gas pedal,
4-keep pressing the gas pedal for 60sec.
5-Release the gas pedal and turn of the ignition key,
6- Wait for 60sec.
Then turn on the ignition key and start the engine. Check if the service/oil change light turned off.
That's all! The vehicle is Fiat Doblo, works on Linea, Qubo/fiorino also vauxhall combo.

2012 forward...

Moderators's note: When changing the oil on a diesel 500, there is a specific software reset procedure (for the oil degradation counter) which must be performed correctly or serious damage could result. This is in addition to resetting the service light. At the time of writing, there is no evidence that following the procedure in this post will properly reset the oil degradation counter. Use it at your own risk.

Can confirm it works on fiat bravo 2.0 multijet 165 sport (Jan) 2012 model. My change oil flashing red light popped up earlier and it was serviced about 90 miles ago,Had an oil flush, new filter, low sap c2 oil. Did this procedure and the light has gone off. Chuffed to bits thank you. Ps how do you reset the service counter because I can't seem to find it through the menu and nothing Comes up when I switch the ignition on?

Just bought a Multipla and oil light is flashing though garage says oil service was done. I spoke to a Fiat Dealer who said that to reset the oil degradation counter would need to be done by an ECU software reset by them BUT that it did not really need to be done. The red light was to warn you that oil needs checking and the oil degradation can be reset to show it actually was done. They said there would be no issue to just resetting the oil light via the pedal 'trick' listed above. It would not cause any problems. Of course they could be wrong but.....

Hope this helps. Mostly reassured me!

The pedal works exactly the same as the computer procedure does set the oil counter back upto 100% life
At least from my experience anyway

Hi

Joined just to say shaggy's has just worked with a Fiat 500l diesel (2015 plate), UK-based (if it makes any difference). Other methods had not worked.

Cheers Shaggy
