Hi - I have listed my car in Fuelly as a Gas L2 because my eyes thought that 1.2 looked like L2!! I also have to note that my car isn't powered by gas (methane, hexane.....) but a liquid. Although I'm prepared to let this pass....:worship: for the sake of peace with the colonies.

However, I note that there seem to be quite a number of categories: Gas, Gas H2, Gas L1, Gas L2, Gas L4 besides some diesel variants.

Does anyone have any idea what these designations refer to? I'm not sure that I have mine listed correctly now.

Perhaps it pays to read a bit....

What do the engine type abbreviations such as L4 and V6 mean?

We use "codes" to identify different engine types, and they're not always self evident. Here are the most common codes and what they mean:
  • L4 = Inline-four cylinder. This is the most common type of engine across cars at Fuelly. (Variations such as L6 or Straight-six are rare in comparison.)
  • V6 = [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V6_engine"]V6 engine[/ame]. This one actually makes sense. The V refers to the shape of the engine. This is a very common engine. (We show the option for a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V4_engine"]V4 engine[/ame], but this engine only existed in a few rare cars.)
  • H4 = Hybrid four cylinder. We use H4 and H6 to refer to four and six cylinder engines that also use electricity to help with fuel economy. Subaru also makes a "horizontal" engine that we use H4 and H6 for in Subarus only. (If you know engines, this can also be confused with [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H_engine"]H engines[/ame], another rare engine type.)
  • W16 = [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W_engine"]W engine[/ame]. This is another very rare engine that only exists in a few cars.
Just keep in mind that the L4 and V6 are the most frequently found engines and you'll be set. Also keep in mind that we let Fuelly members choose any engine they'd like for their vehicle. We offer suggestions but people can override them. Sometimes they get it wrong.

Seems that you've answered your own question ;). The 1.2 is a Gas L4 Hatchback by fuelly's definition - all you need to do now is to log on & change it & your sig should automatically update :).

Yeah - it's a case of JRTFM (Just read the flippin' manual!).........maybe not flippin'...!;):yuck:
