Was just reading this thread as my 1.4's spark plugs feel like rubbish down low in the power with the AC on after about 12 k, so will probably book a service tomorrow and get the oil, filters, and spark plugs changed. I am putting Bosch Spark Plugs, lets see how they feel.

(some of you may have heard me from the Mini post saying I want to sell my car, but with such rubbish trade in offers, I am put off for the time being. I advertised my car on the greek autotrader, lets see what happens.).

You'll probably be inundated with loads of nuisance phone calls from dodgy Greek car resellers looking to advertise your car elsewhere for an exorbitant fee, or sell it for a huge commission ;).
 
Here are my sparkies after about 17,000 kms. Its funny, but my oil change schedule is dictated by when my car feels rubbish due to worn plugs as there is no point of going to service the car by changing the plugs and not doing the oil at the same time.

17,000 km's, 9 months since last service.
Car feels so much better after plugs change. These are the most consumable objects in the car it seems, as the oil was not too bad after 17,000 kms!

My 6-year-old 1.4 still had it's original copper plugs (19 k miles) when I acquired it. Decided to replace them with Denso Iridium plugs after reading some threads on this excellent forum. What a difference it made - the engine ran far better from cold, was much smoother across the rev range, and even improved acceleration.

I have always been a fan of changing plugs regularly on every car I've had. While I agree that changing plugs can have a beneficial effect on MPG I think the best way to improve MPG on any car is correct use of the gears and to control the use of your right foot!
 
I was using NGK IZKR7B in my 2009 1.2 already from the beginning for 85.000km. I did change them after 60.000km, so I sold it with the second set.

They had a good starting performance, especially with E10 fuel in winter. This was the main reason, why I changed them shortly after getting the car.


Initially I wanted to switch to NGK ZKR7AI-8 but they were more expensive and I was happy with the IZKR7B for 60.000km, so why to use other ones. And the IZKR7B have a lower resistance 1kOhm instead of 5kOhm the ZKR7AI-8 have. This leads also to a stronger spark. Regarding EMC or coil wear due to this I had no problems at all.

Another alternative are the Denso Iridium IXU22FTTs I've just put in my 1.2 - they were just shy of £40 for the set from https://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/

They've only been in for about 300 miles, so I can't say how they go over time. First impressions seem decent though, it's definitely happier in a high gear at low speeds, and I managed to average (a reading of) 57mpg on the way back from Birmingham to Leeds.
