Hi,

I have a quick question - I have two keys at them moment one remote fob and one standard key. I was wondering where I could buy cheaply a new remote fob and get it programmed?

Any ideas would be great :)

Thank you

Because of the technology used, getting any replacement key for a current generation FIAT isn't likely to be cheap, as the car will need to be reprogrammed before it can recognise the new key. Some folks here have reported finding aftermarket solutions for non-remote keys but I don't recall anyone having successfully obtained another working remote key other than by going through the main dealer network.

When I bought my new 500 just under two years ago, I asked about getting a third key, and IIRC was quoted £250 for a remote or £175 for a non-remote.

This is probably not what you are hoping to hear and I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You can pick them up on ebay - but you'd then need your dealer to cut you a blade and programme it, which won't be too cheap I don't suppose.

As I understand it, the blade has to be ordered by the dealer (on the chassis number) and arrives in cut form. Programming needs the electronic code; as you say, even going this route won't be cheap.

What sort of price do the remotes go for?

I got one for £27 :) Still need to get a blade cut and get it programmed. I actually want to get another fob off ebay before I get them programmed :)

Fiat told me that you can only have 2 keys programed, as usual with anything a fiat dealer tells me I have no idea if that is true.
I paid £10.50 for my spare key from ebay, I have not had it reprogrammed or had a new blade yet but i will get around to it one day.

I agree with that

According to page 7 of my owners handbook, "The system may recognise up to 8 remote controls".

I thought I'd read that somewhere! :)

Planning to get another remote key so I have a key, the wife has a key, there's a spare remote key (the original one) and the spare non-remote key.

You guys should open a website shop fiatkeysrus!
30 pounds per set of remote keys! All you need from the customer is the code settings and voila send them their keys.

Let me know if you do reprogram it - will be interested in the cost.

They are not complete keys, just the case

THE ONLY PART THE FOB DOES NOT COME WITH IS THE TRANSPONDER UNIT/BRAIN

YOU WILL USE THE ONE YOU HAVE IN YOUR BROKEN OR DAMAGED UNIT
These are only any good if you have the working electronics from a key already (EG Repair of a broken case etc)

Hi as car locksmith I thought i'd offer advice -

Used car keys in most cases are not re-usable. The chip inside them can 'sometimes' be replaced - but that in itself is a job requiring specialised electronics equipment.

So don't buy your Fiat 500 key off ebay as your'll be disappoint when the Fiat dealer laughs in your face or your local car locksmith refuses the job :)

The good news is you can save money by not necessary going to dealer. Many places do Fiat keys and with no waiting period.

Hope this helps guys

We can supply a programed none remote key for the 500's.

It will manually open the door and start the car.
