Hi, got a 2008 sport 1.2 and noticed today at work when I had car on a ramp the rear axle mounts have a bracket welded to it that the rear brake pipe attaches to and handbrake cable. Now the bracket has cracked n broke off leaving the cables swinging loose and also brake pipes are able to move around.
This has happened on both sides.
I have come across this before but on a later model I think.
Anyone else had this problem? Is it a known thing, recall maybe?

Worth taking it into the stealer and then having a good shout at customer service for it I guess.

Not something I've heard of before though.

Hi- I have a Fiat 500 1.2 Pop 2008 which has just failed its MOT for this exact reason. This time its the right hand bracket that has broken but I've been shown the left hand one which had been welded previously without my knowledge. The garage I took it to suspected there could have been a recall as they have apparently seen this on EVERY 500 they have had for MOT in recent weeks. I'm going to call my local dealership first thing to see what they have to say but would be interested to hear how you got on.

How did u get on wit the dealer on this, Had a couple of 500`s at work recently and they been same wit either one or other cracked or hanging off. As you say it is MOT failure.

Interesting. Mine goes up on the hoist this week for an oil/plugs/visual inspection. I'll have a peek and see if I'm affected. Esp as next month is MOT month.

Let us know how u go on after your inspection. May be everything ok but just seen a fair few lately that broke and as already stated a MOT failure but also should really be a warrenty job i.e recall really

Yes just another comon fault with the 500. Wifes 2008 had the same problem when it came to it's first MOT

My 2009 500 has just failed the MOT on this, waiting to hear back from stealer if it'll be covered under warranty. Service advisor just told me they had another like this recently and he didn't think it was.
Anyone else had this recently?

Just been told the warranty claim has been rejected and the cost is £230.

Have a decent garage fix the issue and fabricate something to sort the issue. No point in getting Fiat to fix it as it'll just break again......

If I wasn't so pushed for time I would. Needs MOT by the end of the month and at the moment there just aren't enough hours in the day to sort out getting it done elsewhere by then.

Do you want it done properly or do you want it just to break again?

Just collected the car and the offending part

Also noticed on the MOT there was an advisory for front strut bearing assembly. Bit cross that they weren't going to tell me about that, I saw it on the certificate as I was waiting out the front for my car to be brought round but they are going to get them replaced under warranty.

They didn't take any notice of the power steering failure problem on the Punto, or the bonnet lock problem on the Cleo, so they wont do anything about this.

Clio was recalled in 2007 for bonnet, they will investigate so it might trigger a service recall at the least.

If you don't try nothing will happen.

Wasn't the recall just to show owners how to close the bonnet, don't think anything was actually done to fix the lock.

They did a safety check and did repairs if the catch had been poorly maintained. They also added bonnet catch maintenance to the service procedures as well.
