Fair enough, would seem I was wrong

I'll grab my coat......

Definately no need to grab your coat and I think you're being harsh on yourself for seemingly believing you might be wrong. I didn't look up the stuff I found to try and discredit you or anyone else or make myself belief that I might be wrong or even right. I just think the law can often be subjective, certainly it isn't easy to interpret half the time. Great debates on this forum and we're all the more healthier for it! (y)

...It seems this whole argument has been brought up before, well before my arrival on this forum. Reading through all of the posts is entertaining! In fact, I nearly wet myself laughing so much!...

A number of us have got a little wiser with some of the 'debates'. If you're in the 'middle of one' it's hard to see the 'wood from the trees'.

As the 500 might not be a first choice car for a motorway cruiser (it's perfectly capable, but if someone else is paying the fuel bill I'd prefer something quieter with better seats), CC isn't going to be worth having for everyone.

When you get the cars built like those we have in the US, that attitude might change. They have more sound insulation, and the seats are a bit wider since my compatriots don't frequent the gym as much as I do. Over half the miles on my 500 Sport were logged on the interstate and it was surprisingly comfortable, even with cruise set at 80mph.

By contrast, I never use the cc in my M Coupe as it encourages more aggressive driving. :)

I don't understand how Cruise control encourages fast driving. I thought the idea of it was to keep at a steady speed.

Yes, I too am confused by the previous statement. As someone who uses CC almost every day, I can honestly say that using CC has ever once made me feel compelled to drive more aggressively. I use CC for the sheer enjoyment and pleasure it gives me driving my car, settling back into the leather and keeping a gentle eye on what's going on around me without having to concentrate too much about what my right foot is for (save for braking!) To boot, it helps with the fuel economy and stops me breaking the speed limit through road works. Long live Cruise Control!

I don't see why the size of the car or the engine affects the appropriateness of cruise control.

Surely it is about the convenience of not having to keep your foot moderated on the accelerator? Why does size affect that?
I totally agree with Robin, it would be a good option in any case if it was available in Europe models.

So finally... WHO has retrofitted a cruise control to Fiat 500?

I want to buy a diesel Fiat 500, but currently the ones that are in my price range do not have cruise control. I can buy the switch easily and I think the installation is not a big thing.. Does it need any programming? Or is it just pluging the new switch pack to its place?

I do not need any guessing work, only a reply from a people who have done the work. And please keep in mind, I do all the work myself.

Thank you in advance!

I did the post about the Autostrada cruise control, about $600 (Australian). Our 500s are the same as the European ones. I supposed they would ship overseas but I don't know.
I also posted on T124 forum if you want to see how it's done. Search, cruise control for fiat 500. This forum won't let me post urls yet

Thank you for your reply! I found from the T124 how it was done, seems pretty straight forward job.

One thing I have been wondering, in some of the Fiats/Alfas you can just turn on the cruise control from the ECU with for example Multiecuscan (I have bought the software already for my Alfa romeo), only thing you need to change is the module where switch for CC is located and you can get them in fairly cheap price.

As I understand it, because the Euro 500 never had cruise control as an option, it's not built into the ECU. But I am only going by what others have said. Different in the US, their 500s are made in Mexico and have lots of differences to the Euro ones, including cruise control.

That is not correct. Actually Euro version has cruise control, but it was an option. I've seen few Fiat 500 with factory cruise. Not so many who ordered these cars were too interested of this option. But for me this is a must.
