General New Steering wheel

Hi Maxi. I think this was your idea as I recall to make the website simple :) Sorry going a bit offtrack now, but are you saying that if one variant is offered then it should be sold by selected dealerships ? and what do you mean by serviced at a select few dealerships - what difference would it make as the car would be a shell with a 1.2, TA, 1.4 etc. i.e. standard run of the mill engines. Sorry if I missed something.
I'm being sarcastic :p

I'm saying they should take your idea and then just screw it over by doing what they did to the 500 t-jet model.

They tell me that they get them now and again...I have said if they can get any I will buy them. If anything comes up I will let you know.

Do you have to stab holes in the old steering wheel to remove the air bag (the GP has 2 small circular indents in the back where you stab er,.... the special air bag removal tool aka small screw driver?

ALSO FOR ANYONE ATTEMPTING THIS TAKE GREAT CARE WORKING WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM AS IT IS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE..... TAKE YOUR BATTERY OFF FOR ABOUT 30 MINS BEFORE TINKERING WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TO ALLOW THE AIR BAG COMPUTERS CAPACITORS TIME TO DISCHARGE ....

Video posted on the first page :)

It has 3 holes in the back of the wheel the you unclip the airbag with a screwdriver.

I have circled them in red on this very well done professional photo/infographic

I unclipped the battery when I took it off. I did not wait any time at all and it was OK.

An update on this.
I have been using the Abarth wheel for 2 weeks now and I love it. It makes the car feel somehow different. It just feels better somehow.
If you are thinking about upgrading to one then do it.

My supplier has just sent me an email saying that they have another abarth wheel for sale If anyone is interested let me know.

Thought I would resurrect this thread as I have to take my steering wheel off of my Cat C again. For those of you that read my diary of my Cat C repair will know I put the wheel back on at about 1 o'clock.

When I took the original one off I watched these videos of the 3 holes and sticking a small screwdriver in to undo the clips. Mine is a 2013 Sport and it does not have the three holes. I read somewhere else that you can stick a screwdriver in the back of the wheel, where it sort of meets the cowling (once the cowlings are off of course). I couldn't get this to work either. I spent a couple of hours and was getting very frustrated. Eventually, as I was taking a blown airbag out the logo cap was already off and I quit easily stuck a screwdriver in from the top down the side of the deployed airbag and released the clips. Took about 10 seconds.

Now I have to do it again, I'm wondering how the hell I have to do it. I understand that you can't take the top cap off (where the logo is in the centre of the wheel), so how the hell am I to release these clips.

Any ideas anyone?

I have just fitted my new Abarth steering wheel. It is a very easy job to do and only took about 30 mins. I bet I could do it in 15 now I know what I am doing.

The abarth wheel will give me another 50bhp and about another 29mph.

Does anybody know how easy it may be to fit a Fiat 500 steering wheel into a 09 Fiat Grande Punto?

I've just experience from my own Fiat 500, I asume it pretty easy for your Grand Punto too. Watch this video as a good reference:

Some further guideline together with some attached photos:

1) Important:
FOR ANYONE ATTEMPTING THIS TAKE GREAT CARE WORKING WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM AS IT IS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE..... TAKE YOUR BATTERY OFF FOR ABOUT 30 MINS BEFORE TINKERING WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TO ALLOW THE AIR BAG COMPUTERS CAPACITORS TIME TO DISCHARGE ....

2) Detach the plastic cover under your steering wheel column (2 screws).

3) Turn the steering wheel so you get access to the 3 holes in the back of the wheel then you unclip the airbag with a screwdriver.

4) Disconnect the Air bag senter connectors by pressing the release tab sidewise on the connector and pull out (one pink, one yellow). Further remove the white sliding connector and the airbag should be loose.

5) Align your driving wheel so they point to the straight-ahed-positions.

6) You might remove the steering wheel controls and harness by discontent the black connector (in the steering wheels upper part).

7) Remove the rubber protection to get access to the senter nut. The stearing wheel is pulled strait out after the senter nut is removed (attached on prisme/one way direction).

8) Take note of the steering wheels connectors and harness before you remove the steering wheel.

9) Reinstall your new steering wheel and do all instruction in the opposite sequence. Don't forget to recheck all connectors, senter nut and the rubber cap protection before you attach the Air Bag module.
