Technical Adding an aux-in on fiat 500

Dont forget that your cd player is MP3 compatible, All you need to do is burn a cd with MP3's on it, You should get about 150 songs on each CD

I have a 59 plate Fiat 500 with blue and me but it didnt with an aux in point. I have been reading up on how to fit this and it says i need some sort of keys to be able to do this but i have no clue where to get them from? (not very good with cars!) Anyone able to help me? :)

Silly question, but if you've got B&M then why do you need an aux in? Buy a 10 quid flash drive and chuck all your MP3's on there and you're sorted :)

AFAIK there is no aux in cable that you can buy for a B&M equipped 500 that will work (Click here). The cables that can be bought are generally qualified with 'not on B&Me'. If you find something that works you might update the FF.

You could consider an Xcarlink. This has worked on a different model 'Fiat' and it has upgradeability allowing you to stream through Bluetooth. It is supposed to work on a 500 and is a neater solution to what the US have done.

Other option is the tried and tested B&Me adaptor. Simplest option. It will also charge the device leaving the 12V free or if the fuse has blown !

Basically I have found the keys to remove my stereo I just need a lead to put into the back of the unit! And I already use a memory stick for my blue and me but it gets abit annoying trying to find songs and I also bought a cable for my iPhone to work and it wasn't what I wanted either. I have a blackberry now and an aux in lead would be more suitable! :) thanks for your help though

Do you really think it's a good idea to be using your phone with your hand whilst driving?

One of the criticisms of the the B&Me system is the interface for selecting music and it may explain the demand for an 'Aux' function which is standard on the newer B&Me systems.

Given the number of individuals with smartphones & iphones their 'media centre' is on mobile and if you're caught holding a mobile whilst driving here it's 2 points on the licence. I'm unsure if this offence extends to an itouch or such like which is a handheld but not a mobile. Canada has updated their laws and it's an offence to interact with an electronic device unless it's a 'one touch' operation.

One of the benefits of having an 'hooked in' device is that it allows your passenger to selection music. Given that this function is 'built in' on the B&Me Tom Tom it would be deemed to be acceptable although it goes a little beyond the 'one touch' operation.

With Siri on the iphone4 this may offer better possibilities of keeping your eye on the road. Apple are looking at further developing it with the concept of 'Eyes Free'.

Sometimes it hard to beat a good old fashioned CD and Tina Tuner can shorten the journey length of a long open road.:)

Hi all, apologies for opening up such an old topic.

I’m looking into buying a used 500. I’m seeing one on Saturday (2011) that has blue & me and a usb socket, but no aux. Having read through this thread am I right in thinking the cables for patching in an aux lead from the back of the unit don’t work with blue & me?

I still use an ipod classic so would really like an easy way to just plug & play.

Any advice?

Replace the head unit for a aftermarket one that will give you all you need, about £60_90

Thanks. I quite like the looks of the ones that are fitted so don’t want to replace with an aftermarket one.

I'm in the same boat (almost) with a 59 Lounge. I have an Android phone so the BnMe Bluetooth connection is JUST phone calls (it acts like a headset without A2DP) which serves one purpose: but not my main requirement which is music/nav voice over the car's speakers.

I might look into a new HU, as that would (I think) allow me to 'manipulate' the music playback whilst driving (with the steering wheel controls), but as I'm not sure how long I'm going to keep the car it seems like a large outlay for little gain.

I can still use the phone for sat-nav directions, it's loud enough, but I'm stuck with FM (or CDs) for music.

I have the 2011 gucci 500 with blue & me and my iPod works fine! So does my iPhone they plug in to the blue & me usb.... I did have to do an update on the blue me software... it’s free & easy to do you just need a usb stick correctly formatted but you should be good to go!

My daughter has just bought a 2009 Pop which had one of these (unfitted) lying in the glovebox. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-500-Aux-IN-Line-IN-Input-Adapter-for-iPod-iPhone-MP3-AUX-3-5mm-Jack/261097728771?epid=1088259947&hash=item3ccaa32b03:g:SrEAAOSwTVtZZgsX

Remove radio with supplied tool, insert yellow plug into empty socket in rear of radio, feed wire behind glovebox into foot well, replace radio. It took me about 15 mins.

However I don't know if other models use the socket in the back for other things (eg steering wheel controls). At most you'll have wasted £4 but you'll have the removal tools ready if you have to swap the head unit!

I think the general rule is if you don’t have steering controls or blue and me, push the CD button, then push it again, if it says AUX then you can plug the thing in. I think the blue and me and steering controls use the empty socket but only works on Blaupunkt head units I believe.

Worked on our 09 pop
