Has anyone heard if fiat have sorted out the software to the stop start yet this will be the 3rd time i will have to take it back to the garage and i'm getting really hacked off with it i can't work out if the garage is just reseting it to keep me quiet or if there is a problem they can't or won't :bang:sort!!

You might need to wait longer than 2 minutes before chasing us.

Also, you might just want to search the forum - you are not quite the first person to raise this issue...

Apologies for the double post at the beginning of the thread, im not much of a forum user. The problem is the dreaded 'Stop start unavailable' and 'check engine' dialog comes across the screen, the triangular warning light comes on and the engine light also. This is the 3rd time ive taken it back to the dealer. As for riding the clutch pedal, that is not the problem, i have already been fobbed off with that excuse from the dealer. No one could reverse into a tight driveway, of which there are thousands in the country (Along with 500 owners) and dump the clutch.

I will go and search the forum some more.

Apologies if i was tetchy earlier - hope you get it sorted. I see that you have posted in the big S&S thread already.

Mrs G sets the lights off at least once a month. We just ignore them and it resets its self after a few days. :)

I have had my 1.2 Sport (Stop & Start) for nearly three weeks. The stop and start does take some getting used to. It becomes operative only when the engine has warmed up. Even then I think it can be temperamental as the "check engine" triangle warning light at the bottom left of the instrument panel comes on. Most of the time I switch it off unless I happen to be stuck in traffic which I think does save a bit on petrol.

I've had the car for 3 months and never had a problem, although sometimes it doesn't come on when I expect it to.
I've never had any lights come on to indicate failure, but that's just tempting fate isn't it?!

Mine has started itself up a couple of times, but usually that is when I've got the climate control set to quite cool, so the cabin temp rises and it cools the car down. It only starts working when the coolant temp is at least two 'notches' on the gauge - as expected.

Thanks for the replies. Just out of interest how long is 'a few days' Is the car just driven as per normal to reset itself?

Just drive as normal the car is fine. I am not sure but I think the reset kicks in after so many miles.

I've only had my car five days but I've covered nearly 400 miles in that time most of it town and city driving.
The only time I've had Start Stop Unavailable pop up is when I was riding the clutch when I first got the car. It was the first time that I had driven in two months so I was a little nervous and was riding the clutch instead of going in to neutral.
Now that I'm used to the car and the start stop it all seems to be fine. (y)

I got a Fiat 500 1.3 MJTII (95hp, diesel, 2010) and my start/stop-system works well. Sometimes is says that the S&S isn't ready but I read in the user manual that it could be like 100 reason to that.

If you are getting engine warning lights as well as the Stop / Start Unavailable on the display then it does seem like there is a more sinister problem present.

In my case I've had Stop / Start Unavailable a few times but having read some forums, the manual, etc I believe there are a combination of reasons why the car may choose to prevent it from working... such as:

* Level of charge in the battery
* Whether the car is warmed up
* Level of accessory load (e.g. heaters, lights, radio on)

Also if you open the door for whatever reason before stop / start activates when you come to a stop, it disables it as well..

Or if you've reversed then stopped.

Ah! That explains why it was disabled the other day then when I reversed into a parking space and wondered why that flashed up on the display ;) Thanks!

I've got a Sport (Stop/Start) 60plate and when I picked it up brand new it was explained to me by my dealer the reason the SS may say it is unavailable is because you've been in reverse gear?? SS won't work when reverse gear is or has been selected - stops the car cutting out during reverse manouvers...

If you get a warning light when possible just turn off your engine, wait 2 minutes and start back up it should reset the system and all will be fine and dandy again...

As for it starting itself back up there are 2 Mai reasons: 1) your using too much power for the car to initiate SS (I.e. Climate and radio or heated screen and radio or heated screen and lights) this is so it doesn't kill you battery... 2) it may start back up if it's been stood on SS for a while, no idea why this is but it just does it... Pesky Italians!! :)

As for the light coming on when you reverse onto your driveway press the SS button on you dash (it'll be on the black/cream section - dependent on interior colour - you'll see an ovalish shaped area it should be the top left button) :)

Hope I've been of some help :s

I don't quite understand why you disliked my post, pritch4891. Would you care to explain your reasons?!
