The boss has been playing with the forum settings recently and introduced a new feature.
Like and dislike, thanks has been on the forum for a wee while now and now we have like and dislike.

Like and thanks are two separate things.

Thanks is for useful information which has or has the potential to be helpful to members or guests viewing the forum.

Like is purely for post you may find amusing or agree with.

Dislike is for posts you find disagreeable for whatever reason.

Now there's been a bit of complaining about rudeness and which by the way isn't against the rules. Merely socially distasteful.
For these occasions we have the dislike button. If any post find it's way to having 5 dislikes it is removed automatically and can only be seen by specifically clicking to view it.

There is no count on like or dislike like there is for thanks.

Good system. Gives the forum a chance to self moderate if enough people find a post to be a bit naughty :)

Should we all dislike Venters' post and get it removed? :p

 But, for whatever reason maxi decided to both thank AND dislike the same post in another thread.

Come on Daniel, explain!

I disliked the post by accident and wanted to make up for it :p

Jeezus christ!!!! It's like the Spanish Inquisition in here!!!!!!:p

P.S I know that no one expects it :p

Huh? So 5 people dislike it and it's removed. If it's removed how do we specifically click on it to view it? I specifically click on the threads I want to view today.

Do we really need to be so facebook? Really? Can't we just be a forum?

It isn't removed, it just minimizes if you want to put it that way.

And if you don't like (sic) it no one is forcing you to use it.

I was testing this out earlier - it just minimises it - basically just changes all the content to "This post has been down rated - click view post to see it" or something like that.

It's not 5 negatives, it's a negative 5 rating - so 5 neg + 0 positive, or 8 neg + 3 positive etc etc...

Still not following you? I'm staring at the 500 main section. I see posts. I click on the one I want to read.

Under this new system, instead of posts appearing at the top of the section and staying there, they'll appear at the top of the section and if 5 people don't like it they slide down the page, leaving the more popular near the top?

If 5 people dislike a thread and it supposedly minimises (where? bottom of the section?) then its possible that a really interesting - to me - thread can appear and then gets pushed to the bottom and I'll miss it. Is this not just ensuring that all the 'popular' threads get to the top of the page?

You're getting posts mixed up with threads :)

The main 500 section displays the same, threads listed in order of last posted on.

But when browsing an individual thread, if a post has a negative 5 value, you'll only see the persons name and an alert saying you need to click to view it.
