Well i'm 24, 3 points for speeding and a "modified" A500 (tuning box declared in other words) and it's around £800 so not too hefty.

According to my insurance friend (the one who asked me was I planning any mods ) - if you're married and you have your wife on the insurance policy your premium goes down - apparently you're perceived to be a lower risk with more responsibilites.
I not too sure if adding your mum will count.:)

Adding Mum and Dad helped reduce my son's insurance (with Elephant). I was charged £4 when I bought my Twinair for changing from a 2004 Mini Cooper - this was for nearly a year's premium, and was probably mainly admin rip-off. Also bear in mind when changing cars that if, as normal, you're changing to something newer, it will be worth more and therefore cost the insurers more if it's written off.

Raised a good point point about administration charges. I was caught for a €70 charge on making a permanent change . When I argued 'after the fact' (I desperately need to have the cover to drive away) I got a €20 goodwill gesture rebate. (y) If I was getting new insurance I would now ask about admin charges for any car policy changes. If they're cheaper then tend to get you some other way !

Yes but DragFlaig lives in the arse-end of nowhere - his insurance is cheap because sheep don't often hotwire cars or steal your wheels (or dashboard).

Are you sure about this Lyndsey? Certainly seems a trifle odd, have you actually tried this successfully?

I've only had my 1.2 since the 8th so have not had to tax it yet. In my research I had found out that my 1.2 was £35 a year to tax. On picking up my car it has 6 months tax on, with a price of £0 written on the tax disk by the lovely peeps at the post office. So my cousin checked on the dvla website for me and explained that it shows £35 for twelve months and £0 for 6 months?????

The 1.2 is £0 for the first year and then £30 thereafter. I think dualogic 1.2's after a certain time are £20 per year.

Re. 6 month's tax - I think you'll find that on cars with only £30 annual road tax, you can't tax them for 6 months at a time, only annually.

That is correct. That might be why it's saying £0 on some website for 6 months.

Best way to find out price of insurance is to just look at it.

I was looking at a mini cooper s which is group 30 and insurance was £2k+ but I got a abarth punto evo In the end which is group 32 and it's just over a £1k

Far too sensible for some people on here. They want someone else to find out for them :)

Charming.

Time taken to fill in all details on insurance websites or to call a broker - what feels like a million life-sapping hours.
Time taken to ask a polite question on a website devoted to the model in question - about 30 seconds.

As the insurance advertising herpestidae might say; SIMPLES.

By the way, big thanks to everyone who gave useful answers. 500 Twinair ordered. Very exciting.

I know it might sound a bit flippant and unhelpful, but the best way is to find out for yourself as different insurance companies do things differently and what's cheaper for one person might not be for another :)

As an annoying twunt on another insurance advert says "GO COMPARE!!!" for yourself :p

Enjoy the car :)
