Hi, i wonder if you can help me at all, lately i noticed that in the front passenger side of the car there was what looked like mold

so decided to brush it out, and checked the area and found that it was damp, also checked behind and the rear passenger floor is quite wet, the rest of the car doesn't seem to be affected,

does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I recall a thread where someone had a leaky rear window seal which caused sogginess.

You might also want to check the spare wheel well and see if that is wet.

Do you have a fixed or opening sunroof?

Process of elimination can be very useful in circumstances like this. Have you noticed any particular smell from the dampness? If it smells like antifreeze then possibly a leaking heater matrix? Check your coolant level (cold) to see if it is below the low level marker. If neither of these two apply then you have eliminated one possible cause.

As there is mould then it appears to have been there a little while so recent events might not be applicable so have you in the last few weeks used a car wash, power washer, hose pipe or had any heavy rainfall and perhaps left the window open slightly?

Does the car have a skydome roof, either fixed or opening or do you hear any wind noise from the passenger side that might indicate a faulty door seal or window seal as Robin has stated?

Have you put anything wet in the car, umbrella, gumboots, baby squid or similar?

Any shopping that might have contained liquids that perhaps have leaked or something frozen that could have thawed out?

Cast your mind back and see if anything springs to mind, if so let us know?

Ha! I was just joking about the squid.

I'm sure there is an FRA-approved joke about something wet on the passenger seat but I'm but going there.

Hello again, to go through the questions asked,

the car doesnt have any sunroof at all
we did go in a petrol station car wash , but didnt have the windows open at all, everything was shut, there is no wet in the boot area , or around any of the seals

the water doesnt smell of anything in particular, just had the mold which we brushed off, you only feel the water when touching the carpet of the car, there is not any stains showing water, it is just the two locations, rear passenger footwel and front passenger footwell

the shopping is always in good sized bags in the boot, and the boot is not wet , the food can't fall about

i really cant think that it is anything we have done with the car that has made it leak, certainly nothing that has been mentioned

i will check the coolant level when it is lighter out its quite miserable looking sky at the moment

i hope that all makes sense, talk soon, many thanks for your replies by the way :)
