Shame Fiat aren't offering service packages like Mini and VW really - c.£200 for five years I think. Then clearly there is no discussion!

Fiat's (in general) are good value for money with a lot of equipment for the price. It would be hard to offer a service package as margins are so small unlike mini/VW & a lot of other manufactures.

Exactly. It's easy for VW and Mini to offer cheap servicing plans when they've already fleeced you for the car and it gives Mini a good opportunity to do recalls on cars.

My point was that the 500 is nudging into 'premium small car' money, but they don't seem to have thought about the aftersales. The cost of ownership for a nice spec 500 (say lounge and twin-air or derv) over three years is probably close to a mini or A1.

True. But the 500 has arguably more cool factor than either of those.

Suppose so, how much is the 500 now?

Aftersales...Fiat! Lets just say if there is a hard way to do something, it's the Fiat way.

In Ireland they tried to address that issue by bringing the cost of the basic 1.2 pop down to keep the price competitive with the slightly reduced scrappage scheme at a price of €10,250 on the road. Priced the extras of 16 multispokes at €450 and the blue & me with the fancy steering wheel at €295. That's good value compared with the likes of the competition. With the extended service intervals on the 2011 cars the 3 year cost of ownership should be low. The new cost of a lounge, TA etc. does bring into mito junior territory with comes with 'free' air con as standard on the basic model.
