i drove about 10 miles to pick up my friend stopped the engine in front of his house then turned ignition on to listen radio until my friend show up (it was on ignition for about 5 minutes). When i start the car there was a sudden burnt rubber smell which disapeared in few seconds but it was very intense similar to burnt clutch smell. Car was on netural on startup so i dont think smell came from clutch. and yes i know i can turn on the radio without turning ignition on, i was just being lazy:). Any ideas?

How old is the car? For a few months after having mine the heaters/blowers emitted burning smells frequently, especially when blowing hot/warm air out. I wouldn't have thought this would be to do with heaters in Istanbul, though!

yes it's been quite warm here last 2 weeks. :) I even put aircon on from time to time under direct sunlight. car is 27 months old btw, I don't recall having such problem with my heaters. however it's a possibility since I was waiting in a shadow and it's a lot colder in the shadow so it may have triggered heater because I always keep it in auto mode. what's the cause of the smell in your car, have you figured it out? if some sort of rubber or plastic is nearly at melting point behind dash shouldn't you worry about it like.. a lot? I kinda do right now

I didn't worry about figuring it out because it went away after a few months of driving the car. I've not had any problems since.

I hope you find out what the problem is!
