I've noticed that lately my front left suspension is creaking, especially when going over speed bumps. It sounds like a floorboard creaking but a lower tone, and only happens about 80% of the time I'm driving the car. It doesn't creak or knock under compression through pushing on the bonnet or cornering hard, just going over bumps, so could it possibly be during de-compression?

Has anyone else had this issue? I'm going to ring the garage tomorrow but I worry it's not covered under warranty as my car is over 2 years old. The car is going back to the dealer in September and I don't really want it to be in a bad condition in case they charge me!

I now its a differant car but should be the same problem, Regards to the dealer charging you its wear and tear i don't think they'll be bothered about that. They be looking for dents and rips etc. Click the Click and read Hope this helps

The dealer can't have it both ways - either it's fair wear & tear, in which case they can't surcharge you as your finance agreement covers that, or it's not, in which case they'll have to repair it under warranty.

I don't see how they could refuse a warranty claim on the grounds of fair wear & tear & then surcharge you!

IIRC, though, others have had suspension parts replaced in the third year of the warranty in similar circumstances, so I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

I thought it was just me, listening to my 500 front left suspension. It has also started with sum crazy NEW sounds, that is while going over sum speed humps, it a NEW funky 'compressiony' sound.. dunno if its is suffering with winter pole hole damage :(

Fingers crossed its nowt major, coz i wont be going to Fiat unless it gets any worse (car 2yr+) :slayer:

Pole hole? Is that a euphamism for an Eastern European prostitute?

Lloyd, any update? I changed front pads on mine the other day and it while I was there I had a poke around the suspension. I think my drop links are going with all the pot holed madness of late. Going to replace them this week and see if the noise goes away. Just curious if you came to a similar conclusion?

Had both front ball joints replaced 2 weeks before the end of year 3 warranty!

I thought the balljoints were integral to the suspension arms?

Irritatingly they are. Which means £268 a pair as I learned this morning. Drop links though were surprisingly cheap. £22 each. And the cambelt kit was £70. Meaning the parts bill for the first MOT comes to £382. That's before the labour and the MOT. I reckon it'll be £500-ish all up. Which is fair enough given the mileage and the fun we've had in 3 years.

I may have forgotten to ring them.....

The noise seems to have died right down now though, it's nowhere near as bad as it was. I'll try and remember to ring them tomorrow to get it sorted.

Obviously you needed them today but shop4parts has them for £89 & £81 for left and right. Obviously not much help if you need them now though!

If I can do it without the wife noticing I'm going to buy a set of front discs and pads, some suspension arms and perhaps even a set of track rod ends. I know it may seem silly to some, but spending a few hundred pounds now means saving a few hundred pounds in the future by not being caught out by having to pay inflated prices at a dealer ;)
