Hi,

Heater/air-conditioning fan has packed up. Just doesn't do anything. Still have power to the switch (the air-con light works) and the air is being heated. No other electrical faults I can find. Can't see a separate fuse for it. There is a relay, but not sure if I can just swap another one in to test that?

Any ideas what it could be, and if the 3rd year dealer warranty might cover it? I did jet-wash the car today, but the fuse box is dry inside.

If it's unlikely to be covered, any idea on cost?

Thanks

Do you think anything might have fallen down one of the air vents and could be jamming the blades?

After that it is really a process of elimination. Is power going to the switch? Is power going out of the switch when you turn it on? I assume that there is a rheostat or similar to alter the fan speeds so is that getting power in and out? If all these are Yes and power is getting to the motor it sounds like that is faulty. If it was me I would consider getting a mobile auto electrician to check it out as I think that would be cheaper than Fiat if it isn't covered under warranty.

Good luck and don't forget to update us when the problem has been sorted. (y)

Thanks,

Booked in for next Monday. Diagnostics check is £86, will then find out if it is covered and what is wrong.

It seems a new motor would be £150 from the Fiat dealer, and a heater box £500! I am hoping that as I get warm air that rules out the heater box.

If not covered I will get some alternative quotes (once i know what is wrong)..

It fixed itself today. My 3 year old daught says it's magic. I say it's Italian.

;)

New rule; if it breaks wait at least a week before getting it fixed, just in case....

it does support the idea of washing it having caused the issue though.

It does - washed it today in my normal way (not with a jet wash) and checked it afterwards. All was well...

I wonder if something got wet? I never usually use jet washes. We both noticed that the same day as it started working the car felt "nicer" - kind of smoother and quieter. I'll stick to washing it at home from now...
