Hi everyone,

I have what seems like a stupid question but hey i'm gonna ask anyway!
I've had my 500 Lounge for about 2 and a half months now and have noticed that all windows in the car are pretty much constantly steamed up, every time I get in I have to wait for the steam to go and when i'm driving I have to keep opening the window as can't bear having the heater on constantly! Once it's gone away and I close the windows/turn off heaters it comes back again after a couple of minutes. I thought it was just down to the weather we've had but it doesn't seem to be stopping and after going on a little tour of Scotland at the weekend I have become more and more annoyed by it after having to freeze all the way back to Newcastle with having windows open!

I have got a demister pad in the car so that I can wipe the condensation off the windows when I get in but now my windows are covered in marks from the droplets of water etc - so annoying!!!

Does anyone else have this issue?

No I dont. All the windows clear after a few moments. I stick the air con on to clear the windows.......and thats it. It doesn't come back. Do you have air con?

First, your demister pad kept in the car is in effect keeping all the moisture in the car - take it out when you get out.

Second, do you have the heater set to recirculate? If you do, this is probably causing the problem. Set it to "fresh air" and the problem may go away.

Third (this is like a Kinder Egg) do you have your aircon on? This helps keep condensation away.

If none of these work you might just have a leaky window seal somewhere.

Thanks for the replies.

I do have it set to recirculate and I do leave the demister in the car haha. I'll change it to fresh air tonight and see if that helps. I do have aircon but don't really use it I just use the heater. Hopefully I can sort it.

Thanks again.

That will solve it :)

On a loosely related note, I've found in several cars other than the 500 that the windows mist up worse than ever after the air conditioning is switched off (in an effort to save fuel).

In other words, aircon clears the windows, but then you can't turn the aircon off - once it's on, it has to stay on. I imagine the 500 might be the same.

I read on this forum a while back that you should always switch the aircon off about 5 mins before you reach home, so that it has time to get rid of the moisture it has collected. Would that help in this case or would it just pump the moisture back into the car?

That is correct. Basically because the air con evaporator is so cold, it will get condensation on it and when you park up this will evaporate and mist the car up and if you'ven got the heater on when you get in the car next and the engine is still warm, the warm air will evaporate this water and your screen will mist up nice and quick!

You guys do know that there's a drainage tube on A/C models running from the heater box to under the car to allow condensation to drain out?
