You're so right about 58-59 being good for a TA. But it's no where near the 70mpg combined that Fiat advertise and I really can't see any way to get that mpg on any return journey of greater than 10 or 20 miles. I've never had problems achieving the combined figure in previous vehicles so I had naively expected to do so the the TA.
No chance the Italians conned you haha! To get that you need a Polo Diesel Bluemotion!

You're not going to get much better from a modern petrol engined car sadly.

I didn't for a minute believe that I would get anywhere near the advertised mpg figures. I did imagine though that it might have been a bit better than it has proven to be so far!

My Aygo didn't reach its advertised mpg in its five years with me, however it was better than my 500. And if you believe the figures, it should be the other way around...

ALL my three previous vehicles - all efficient, small cars - didn't require the level of oil attention the Twinair seems to need (only ever topped up at the regular dealer services!). Is that the turbo's fault?

By the way, does anyone run their Twinair on Shell V-Power? Good/bad idea? Any mpg differences?

I've never had any issues with oil consumption and having checked it a few times in the first few months, it never gets looked at now. Sounds like a bit of a problem, but if it's within Fiat's 'normal' consumption figures then you're going to have to live with it.
As for V-Power, I've never been able to justify the price difference to even try it and I haven't seen any reliable reports that suggest it's effective, or at least worth the difference in the cost. Better save your money for the oil!

I just wished I'd checked the oil levels on the delivery day, as I have no evidence to back up my suspicions... which is all they are at the end of the day. I just (naturally?) assumed that everything would have been at the level it should have been. And thus why I think it has drunk oil far to quickly. Oh well! I will be paying very close attention from now on though, rest assured ;-)

I did check my oil the day after delivery because of a suspected oil leak.
It was exactly halfway between the min and max marks.
My dealer topped it up to max for me whilst trying to find the leak which turned out to be petrol from the split tank.

Could this be why it appears your car has used so much oil?

As a turbo powered car you are better off running V Power.

This is exactly why, yes :) the service department were adamant that the oil would have been at the max mark at delivery, but as I had not checked I couldn't back up my claim that surely it couldn't have been given it's now only halfway between the two. Hence why they wouldn't top it up for free, the robbing gets (sorry). I shall keep the oil though and when it comes to servicing time, I shall tell them not to charge me for oil as I have plenty spare :D

Incidentally, the Fiat Direct place in Hayes did the pre-delivery prep work; they may have a different policy to Fiat Marylebone's servicing department!

That's nearly a pint....

That's nearly an arm full!!!!!!

Mine was only about 75% full when new, dropped to about 50% after 10000 miles, so there may not be a problem. Gilly, are you screwing down the dipstick cap before taking the reading? You have to to get an accurate reading.
