quick question does the 1.2 Pop Fiat 500 have that feature where when you open the doors the headlights, fogs and drls go on?just like the Mito. If so how do you set it up?

What's this then have never heard of it?

So every time you open the doors every light on the car comes on??

Credit where it's due, that's quite funny :p

Petty jealousy I think.:D
You also get a cute graphic on the dash of a Mito driving towards you when you get in. Turn the key and all the dials do a full sweep and back. Switch off and the little Mito drives away and fades out. Hidden lights under the doors. In fact it's just full of wonderful goodies.

I remember that! Thought it was cool when i first saw it

If only I'd been in slightly more permanent employment I would probably have stumped up the cash for a 1.4 t-jet Mito :)

Part of me is not sure whether a used Giulietta would be a better buy in the longer term though :)

Despite Alfa's faults I love them.... but the Mito is a Punto anyway so doesn't count.

With the typical 'new model' issues they've got at the minute- I wouldn't.

A MiTo may be only a GP in a fancy frock, but it's based on something that's been around a while and all the silly faults have been ironed-out. :)

I wouldn't be buying for at least another year or two yet anyway ;)

What sort of issues have you come across so far D4nny8oy?

I read the Alfa Owner forums regularly and they seem to be mostly dash rattles & bits of loose trim on the Guilietta. Couple of interior door handles have snapped, some leather quality is abit poor (especially for the price) and the main one being 3 or 4 people reporting 6 speed gearbox stiffness, not dis-similar to the problems experienced with 6 speed Bravo & GP (and MiTo) gearboxes on cold mornings. One person had a new gearbox flown out from Italy for them so i'm guessing that was more serious than abit of ice in the linkages, but the others seem to be on-going at the moment so i've been watching to see if it's the same problem as on Fiats.

Alfa's service seems to be getting alot of praise on fault rectification at this stage though, as it does in many cases on the MiTo too. Not many people on there reporting multiple dealer visits & staff looking blankly at them, which would've been the case a few years ago.

I'd be very interested in an Alfa next, though budget limits will mean it's probably a Bravo, possibly a MiTo or Renault Megane if i strech myself abit.

I've had my Mito since July and although not done too many miles, the only issue has been a rattly glovebox, sorted by adjusting the catch.
I think earlier ones suffered more with issues and paint chipping was a real problem on red and the colour was withdrawn for a while.

All in all I love the car and like the fact that it's still part of the Fiat group.

It's just silly and fundamental things (mainly on the conversion to RHD) they should have picked-up during testing. Although as you said, they've been quick to address the faults and send out the fixes and parts, it just harms the image and reinforces the stereotype for Alfa's.

The paint chipping and the alternator belts seem to be the only problems i seem to read about repeatedly for the MiTo, but both of those to seem to be being addressed (new scuttle pipes to drain water away from alternator & new paint formula).

On the whole it seems amazing that a car based on something that can be as fault prone as a Grande Punto, can actually be as dependable as the MiTo.

Ah that's good to know - sometimes what you read on a forum isn't completely representive of what someone sees who's working on these cars every day!

I do think in a strange way that whilst the issue itself harms Alfas image, the way they seem to be acting swiftly to sort things out (most of the time) seems to actually help improve their image, as it's kinda putting their customer service to the test, whereas a car that never goes wrong never really tests what happens behind the scenes, if that makes sence?!
