Hey folks, i'm trading in my fiat 500 1.4 sport and i'm getting an Abarth. My main concern is the ride. The suspension on my current 2008 500 is far too hard and as a result my car is a nightmare to drive on uneven roads. On top of that all sort of rattles have developed. Is the ride on the Abarth 500 any better? If it is anywhere near my current car's ride i will have second thoughts about it. I'm test driving the car this week but i wanted to get the opinion of people that have driven both cars. Thanks!

I actually owned a 1.4 Sport and did exactly the same and traded it in for an Abarth 500. IMO the ride on the A500 is far better than the 1.4 Sport, it's not hard, just quite bouncy. It's phenomenal how fast you can throw it into a corner, the grip is fantastic. I haven't looked back since trading it in, it's a great little car :)

Why not just get some decent dampers and springs?

Bilstein coilovers are only ~£650 and there are other even cheaper options. If you don't really need the extra power just stick with the 1.4 and stick some proper dampers on it.

I find my car a bit slow so i wanted something equally beautiful but faster. Plus, i find the Abarth somehow irresistible

Agree with others, ride is not overly harsh, even if it is, it's something you most definitely get used to very fast, and appreciate in the bends! I've never thought the ride was bouncy though.

If it's really unbearable (it isn't) i know at least 3 companies that offer aftermarket coil over adjustable suspension kits for less than £1k. Do not go for the SS kit.

You live in Wales though, the roads around there are as smooth as silk ;) :D Try driving around here with all of the potholes and speedhumps - then you'll bounce! lol :)

Smooth as silk!? I wish! But potholes are not something i see often. I've been driving on the beach tonight, pretty bumpy but not much bounce. The only time it really bounces is after landing from a take off! :D

I 've driven the Abarth today. I have to say it feels a whole different car than mine. It is quite fast although the engine felt a bit tight, maybe due to the fact that it had only done 120 miles and the suspension, although firm, it felt more balanced and not as harsh as on my current car. Overall i liked it. It felt like driving a bigger car of a different class.

Engine is electronically limited for the first 1000 miles (run in period) hence why it feels slow, but at around 8000 it will loosen up further more and feel quick. Then it just gets better and better the more you drive it! :)

Iraklas - My girlfriend has a 1.4 Sport, I've had an Abarth SS for 12mths/12k miles,my previous car was a Porsche 911.Go for it the Abarth is the coolest, sexiest car I've ever sat in let alone driven! The only down side is my girlfriend thinks I love it more than her.:) P.S. I've just bought a fixed-wheel track bike so maybe Im having some kind of crisis, not mid life I hope cos Id live to 124.But Abarths dont half make the girlies go 'cricky'(y)

Got the car on Friday. I finally opted for the cloth seats because that's what they had in stock and i didn't want to wait for another 3 months. It's a great car! There is a big difference between my previous 1.4 sport and this one. And the suspension, although firm, is not as hard as it was on the 1.4. Loving it!!
