General 500 TwinAir UK Pricing Announced

Given I can get a 1.2 with the same spec at the Twin for £1500 less (only paying 17.5% vat) and without the wait, I am finding it difficult to justify the twin over the 1.2 - decisions, decisions!! I'll need to be doing a lot of miles on the car for the economy saving to negate the extra expense.

The dealer did not know whether the servicing charges would be more or less that the 1.2.

You won't pay any road tax for the TwinAir either.

They said where the difference comes from. The VAT

I used the Fiat Configuator, the difference prior to the VAT increase is exactly £1200 given the extras I want on a lounge. Given the twin will come in Jan, I estimate another £300 approx for the 2.5% increase on the VAT. This brings it to £1500.

The saving on the tax is £30 pa (i believe this is correct?). If we do 7000 miles (2nd car), I did a rough calc which suggested petrol saving of £90 pa by driving a twin versus the 1.2. If anyone can see a error in my calc, let me know as I like the twin air. But then I also was happy with the 1.2.

If you want to work out how much exactly the VAT difference will make, take the total price of your car, divide it by 1.175 then multiply the answer by 1.2. This then gives you the new price. So for an £11,000 car, the new figure is £11,234.

oh well, I should be ok then, as it was the 30th.........

Assuming your dealership ordered the car, in your name, on the same day.

The 30th was Saturday, and almost no dealerships have Admin staff working on weekends, so it is highly likely your order was not placed with FGA until today.

Not trying to worry you, just making sure you are aware that you could be having a conversation with them nearer to delivery about why your order is not price-protected.

And no, the fact that you ordered from the dealership when VAT was 17.5% doesn't make any difference, as one of the Terms & Conditions that you signed to say you agree to without reading will state that should a change in taxation rate occur between point of order and point of delivery you are liable to pay the difference, regardless of the 'Total Amount Payable' that shows on your order.

Test drove the car on 23rd October and dealer was well informed (like Scrogg). He told me that as long as car was ordered by end of October for December delivery Fiat would honour the 17.5% VAT rate, even if car wasn't actually delivered until January.

I was also informed that Friday 29th was effectively the last day for ordering, for the reasons Scrogg has mentioned. I paid my £500 deposit on Monday 25th Oct and received a phone call during the week to say car had been ordered and a copy of the order would be sent by registered post to my address.

My dealer was extremely helpful, getting the car PDId early on that Saturday morning as my next day off would have been too late to take advantage of the VAT saving.

I was also given a firm price including a P/EX price for the December changeover which they will honour even if car is late arriving with the added option that if I sell my car privately before then, I will make an extra saving. (y)

I guess those are the breaks. Although I'm not convinced my dealership would have admin staff anyday of the week.........
