Thinking about it, my initial musings above may be wrong. I suspect it monitors the signals from the ECU to the injectors, wastegate etc. and modifies them rather than being a new map (I don't think FIAT would have the ECU memory in a seperate module, but they are italian....) but the end effect is the same. Rather clever anyway.

Edit: I'll take my embedded electronics geekery elsewhere!
