Hi,

I have an iPhone 3GS with a Brodit/Proclip car holder for the Fiat 500 which is mounted to the center fan.
Now I have this ugly USB cable running from the phone to the USB port which is located in between the driver & passenger seat.

Is there anyone on here who can tell me how I can 'hide' the cable?

- maybe have it run behind the dash? how difficult is this to do?
- or is there a wireless solution as a USB alternative?

Thanks in advance!

could you open up the OEM USB port and solder the cable points to the rear of the OE port
USB is easy to solder
then you could route it back through the dash and out at the4 holder

forgot to mention i'm a complete newbie.
can you elaborate a bit further?

thanks!

inside the cable going to your cradle, you will have these wires

in the back of the USB port there will be the equivelet wires
like this (this is an xbox connerction but you get the idea)

so you can see that you could connect the wires to the rear of the port
its a simple case of heating the existing solder to join in the cable
any TV repair place or the like could do it if you arent up to it

You could try removing the socket from the console and leave it loose underneath? Add an extension lead down under the seat or up to the glove box shelf ?

It would have been better if they done that in the first place keeping it out of site, even a shiny usb stick might look inviting to a wood be thief!

If you don't want to play with the solder on the USB port, what about if you removed some of the plastic shrouding where the USB comes out, trace the USB cable back towards the dash and then use scotch locks and a spare usb cable to create another USB port elsewhere. You could route the new USB cable wherever you wanted to.

I don't know what this would to do to the stereo though - I think a regular computer would just see 2x usb drives but I don't know how the car would handle it. I guess worst case you would only be able to use one USB port at a time.
