Does anyone know if there are parking lights on the 500

With DRLs there are no side lights and the headlights go off with the ignition - cant see anything in the manual

Turn the ignition off with the light switch in the on position and before you take the keys out turn the light switch off then back on again.

Do you mean you want the headlights to stay on for a bit after you get out of the car? I'm sure there's something where if you flash your lights once the engine's off they'll stay on for 30 seconds, and if you flash twice they stay on for a minute etc, etc. Is that what you meant?

Parking lights are usually side lights being left on after the engine is off and key out of the ignition. For example, on an unlit street at night.

Unless there's something I don't know about you can't leave Fiat lights on: so no parking lights. They aren't a legal requirement any more anyway, so there is no need. You must always park 'with' the traffic flow though.

The get-you-home lights are different, and a brilliant thing for people who need to find a door lock in the dark. I use mine a lot. All Fiats have these.

One of the great bonuses of Fiat ownership is that lights cannot be left on by mistake once the key is taken out. No chance of a flat battery: wonderful, truly wonderful

Are you referring to all Fiats? Or just the latest models? (I know the Mk2 Punto has a wee button you press just on the edge of the ignition whilst turning the key further back).

As for being useless, I've found use for them...unlit car park in the middle of the night, torch battery goes flat - "Bugger, where's the car?"

There is something you don't know because the 500 has parking lights but you do have to turn them on as described in post #2.

Really? Because on ours all you seem to have to do is turn on the lights after turning the ignition off? I could be wrong because I've never used them deliberately!

Same here.

That's interesting, because it still means the lights go off with the ignition, but have the facility of being turned on again intentionally if necessary. It still means you can't leave the lights on after switching off normally which you can wth too many cars. And all the bleepers in the world don't make these other systems foolproof.

What exactly do the follow me home lights do? I remember seeing them somewhere in the brochures but never actually found how to switch em on...
I'm assuming its a different way than turning on the parking lights?

Not quite, LOL. What we are saying is that there is no need to switch the lights on before turning off the ignition.

thanks for this (Spike).... I have not had a chance to try yet but it sounds reasonable - I'll give it a try next time I remember.... don't wnat to just go out and play as it just looks sad - have to settle with admiring from my lounge window

I realise is not a legal requirement to leave lights on if facing the right way but sometimes it feels the right thing - beats having someone hitting you on a dark street

Tried the follow me home lights to light the door last night - they were great but I think I overdone it with 90 seconds - seemed to take an age after we were indoors to turn off!!

I like the idea that the lights turn off with the ignition but have found myself driving with them on again the next morning

The only thing I'd say is that it can be annoying for people living on said street. We live on the outside of a curve on a street which is dimly but adequately lit and sometimes people insist on putting parking lights on and when you're sitting in the lounge watching TV they can be quite distracting and annoying.

Wow the TV must have been bad that night.... whatever must if be like when nasty cars come by with their big lights on

I would suggest perhaps a nice pair of curtains :idea:

If i turn the lights ON after i pull the key out of the ignition, I will have parkingslight for as long as the battery can hold power. But i also live in a country where its required to have the lights on at all time.

Perhaps some of us like to be able to look out the window?

Do you actually have to have your lights on? Or like in the UK do you have to have them on if you're parked on an unlit road?
