Technical Fuel Breather Pipe

Technical Fuel Breather Pipe

Ford has given instructions to dealers to change the breather pipe (the large one) at the next visit to the workshop for all 1.2 engine KA...under warranty

Heidi, Regarding the fan noise, everyone I personally know who has a 500 (3 people!) has had fan noise and this seems very common. I have cure mine and my friends, see my post (How to fix a squeaky fan) or ticking for that matter. The problem seems to be a lack of lubrication but FIAT technicians just replace with another un-lubricated fan which will then be noisy in due course. If you are not technically minded, print out my post and take it with you to the dealer.

The breather pipe sounds like might also be a problem. I had the fume filled car experience and found the small breather pipe had snapped off the back of the air filter box (1.2). I fixed it by drilling a hole where the pipe had snapped and fitted a metal brake bleed valve in its place, now perfect and built to last.

Yay! My breather pipe has gone again, just 10 days after it was replaced! I'd like to think I'm quite good natured and everything but this is a bit stupid. It was running VERY smoothly when I got it back and a few days I noticed it was a little lumpy on idle and you could feel the revs drop but they didn't drop on the rev counter. If you feel that the car is running a bit rough then chances are it's the breather pipe....

can anyone advise if this is just a problem with the petrol cars? I assumed the smell I have in the cabin was this fault, but was told by Fiat that this doesn't occur on the diesels.

If it doesn't happen on the diesel car has anyone any suggestions what could be causing the smell?

What's the smell?

This fault only happens on 1.2's as has been pointed out :)

When I had my diesel the DPF used to get extremely hot and also gave out a distinctive smell after it had carried out a regeneration.

Have you noticed anything that could verify this? eg. idle speed at 1000RPM, the sound of metal contracting as the DPF/Exhaust cools or really hot gas coming from the tailpipe whilst the smell is present?

This sounds like a possibility. The smell is intermittent and distinctive, but I don't think I can connect it to any of the suggested things in your list. I'll see if there's anything specific to which I can connect the smell.

Old post I know but I just got back from a fiat garage to get a service done. Most of the things they recommend needed done at 30-50 pound each I could do, New brake pads, change brake fluid and the breather pipes. One 30 the other 55. Now I've never changed one but I refused to pay that much for a couple of pipes. Does anyone have any idea where I could get these pipes for a good price. Thanks. 500 pop 1.2
