Hi, everybody...

Got myself a Start and Stop (or is it Stop & Start :p) last year that still has a few issues which my local garage have passed to FIAT Italy...

1. Start & Stop does not work...

I know there are conditions where it will not work and I have taken those into account but I would of thought a trip to the Midlands would have seen it working at some point. The car has been to the garage 4 or 5 times now and it seems to work when I pick it up but driving the next day it seems to stop working.

2. Italian Display...

Some functions on the display come up in Italian (e.g. when terminating a call), yes....Blue&Me works.

3. USB issues...

When I try and use a USB stick to load eco drive it fails...I have tried quite a few memory sticks, some old some new, 1GB/2GB/4GB, fromatted to FAT etc....covered all the angles...

The garage seem to think the problems come down to the language issue (see note 2)...

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues.

Thanks in advance

Bri...

there is an ENORMOUS thread dealing with stop and start-

there is a software update to cure- many here have had it (inc me) to positive effect.

search it, youll see.

Thanks for the reply Keeforelli...

The car has had all the software updates...the last one was to set the clutch timeout from 2 to 8 seconds in case of 'feathering'...

The strange thing is the garage say they transferred the 'techie' bits from mine to another 500 and the display issue was solved which, as I say, the garage think is the root of the problems. Put the bits back in mine still get the problem.

I did look at the stop and start thread....honest...

i know how frustrating this is- have you had a new gearbox 'position' sensor?...my warning light will still come on if i slip the clutch too much...

3 goes at a fix, but finally 'cured' by the gearbox fix- june purchase....january fix!- 7 months....

Never had the gearbox thingy changed.

Strange thing is I have never had any warning lights come on either.

I know that the stop start is supposed to be on by default when you start the car but apart from that I have no indication on the display if it's on or off even when I press the button. The garage told me that there is no indication on the display unless its faulty. When I first took it in and they ran a display test they said there wasn't even a display item for stop and start. So I'm really confused.. Almost as if I have a half a stop and start with ordinary 500 parts..

Frustrating...it is

....if its working you wont be notified anyway, that much is correct...
SO, when driving along under conditions where it SHOULD work, ie up to temperature, no excessive battery load, reverse not engaged, you can release the clutch out of gear, and it continues running???!!

the light should DEF come on when u press the button because that disengages s/s....

Correct...

The 'cabin' is up to temperature, the engine temp is halfway on the gauge, door not open, not reversing, windscreen wipers not on max, rear windscreen heater off...all the things I know that will affect it are off.

I travel on the dreaded North Circular on a regular basis which takes me about an hour and a half to do 18 miles. Lot's of depress clutch, gear in neutral, handbrake etc...but the engine keeps on running.

Never seen a light on the display....making me think I have a non stop and start display/dashboard...

Do you have 2 lights...one for on and one for off and when do they operate?

the warning light is an 'S' with a line through it- it is in the top right of the circular instrument display

this will only come on-

a/ if there is a fault with S/S

b/ if you 'de activate' S/S by pressing the 'S' button on the lower dash.

if s/s is active, you get no notification and no warning light-

if S/S goes outside of its normal parameters, a text display in the central circular display 'start and stop de activated'

when it is 're activated' you get no message.

the warning light is visible when its not active - simply find an angle to look at the speedo that shows up all the other warning lights...(you can see the outline)

if s/s is working, youll only know by its actual function.

Thanks again for the feedback Keeforelli...

Just checked the instrument display and there is not the symbol you mention. I know what you mean, I checked the handbook. Strange thing is there is a wavy line which I think is the glow plug indicator for diesel, I remember that from my old Doblo.

Thanks for explaining the S&S indicator...It seems I'll have to wait for my garage to get back to me when they get a reply from Italy.

Thanks again...

I also get a little icon when I press the S&S button, which tells me that it's disabled, so yours should also have it. This is how it looks when its active.

The display is a little different from mine, the mileage is where the S&S symbol is...pressed the S&S button, nothing changes on the display.

Thanks for your reply...

i dont know what im talking about!

when s/s is actually in action, you DO get a little 's' in a circle on the bottom of the small central dial, plus the shift indicator...

do you have these?

the same as mine- i wouldve imagined its a standard thing- tho i did actually forget when making it clear that there was no way of telling it was working on the dashboard!!!!

Hi, My brand new 500c delivered 12th Feb has had the stop/start and engine management warning lights come on and the car loose power and speed when creep mode comes in on 3 occasions. Twice they tell me they've fixed it but now they say my wife is driving whilst riding the clutch!!!! $0 years of driving and now she has lost the ability to drive a cor correctly!! Could it be they don't know what the problem is? MALC

The car has had all the software updates.

are you 100% sure, what software number has car been updated to?

just turn it off as part of your pre-flight check (y)

pointless system IMO (n)

works perfectly well and is very effective...most people i meet that dont like it dont understand how it operate or how to use it....after a educational test drive they always change their minds!
