Hi there

Im about to change my Mini to a 500 lounge. But the problem is that i go skiing sometimes and need a roof rack.
Is that possible to fit to that car, I talked to a few dealers and some of them told me it can be done and some others said that there are no roof racks available to the 500..

Whats the deal?
Someone else must have the same thoughts as me?

Cheers

You can get a ski/snowboard rack for the back of the car as long as it doesn't have a spoiler :)

Much like this one!

Wow, someone really seems to like using their luggage rack thingy. For the extra fuel it would cost to drag that inflatable ring through the air I'm sure you could just pay someone to blow it up for you at the beach. Unless of course it works in a similar way to McLaren's ingenious F-wing which allows the driver to stall the rear wing at speed to lower the drag :chin:

oh and that car must drive like an absolute pig with that suitcase attached to the rear!

That suitcase looks very precariously perched, can just imagine turning a corner too sharply and the thing flying off. The snowboards seems nicely held in place.

But alas, I suspect the best solution is a roof rack. I think only the Lounge comes with the glass roof as standard, and there was a thread on here where others have adapted roof racks to fit on a 500 with a glass roof

This may be helpful.

I had a quick look through and didn't see anyone that had adapted a roof rack to fit a lounge?

Towbars are available - around £250 for a removable Thule bar, with single electrics, fitted by Indespension

Not the most practical solution as you then have to find somewhere to store a trailer and you need another plate for the trailer etc etc.

Thanks for all the answers..

Talked to another Fiat dealer today and he said that Thule just came out with a roof bar kit for the 500.
So he said that it could be fitted even with the sun roof..
And the price where only $200

I think you have been mis-informed, there is still no fitment for the glass roof according to the Thule website

Re: Roof racks on a 500 with glass roof - further

Hi all,

Any update for a roof rack or bars for the Lounge 500 Models?

I can't believe there isn't one out by now as there are so many lounge models out there now.

John

My requirement for a roof rack or bars is a little unusual.

As an add on to my Pure Water High Reach window cleaning service, I also clean conservatories including the roofs. There is a special ladder (costing nealy £500) for this work. It's not heavy but too long to fit inside the car.

A cycle rack therefore is not the answer for me. I wish I had known about there being no roof rack for the lounge models in advance. Like I've already said - I find it hard to believe there isn't one available yet.
