Tuning Fuel Consumption

Tuning Fuel Consumption

I like to keep a tab on things. It's hardly a hardship for me to type in the amount of litres of fuel and the odometer reading into my phone. Put it into fuelly and it works everything out for me. There's no harm in keeping track of things now is there? :)

I couldn't have put it better myself

No harm at all. :) I'm sure you could do a little bit better though... :D

I definitely could! My MPG was good at the start when I had a job which had me driving 20 miles each way every day but then I lost that and the car has only really been driven smallish distances to and from work and when the wifes driven it she's done especially small distances as work is just over a mile away for her. When driven over distances the MPG is good, but it's commuting that kills my mpg :( Oh and the fact that it's been pretty cool until recently.

All should change from Monday though when I start a job where the commute is more like 18 miles with not much traffic on flowing roads I know very well :D

Going back to the original post - my wife and I drove down from Cardiff to South Devon last weekend via the M4/M5/A38, and the total mileage was 360 miles.

We reset the trip before setting off and we managed to do a combined 55mpg spot on, and that was even caning it past lorries etc on the M5! The range says there's 105 miles left (but I did brim it with petrol so I think there was a good 50 "free" miles).

I thought that was a top effort myself but then I am a bit of a saddo!:D

Not bad :) I do find that when the car says it's got 100 miles to go the range tends to plummet very quickly and you never seem to actually get what it says you will :( See if you can beat my record of just over 420 miles on a tank :)

Yeah it is a bit random at times but nevertheless seems to be doing its job fine, we haven't run out yet!

420 miles - well, now we're back in town I don't suppose we'll manage it, but you never know, it's a challenge worth emulating lol! Sod the stereo, wheels, bodykit etc - we're gonna take up extreme consumption man!:D

Well I do that doing fairly short journeys like the 7 miles to and from work I do at the moment so you should be able to manage it in town :) I'm hoping to get close to 500 miles in 2 weekends time :p
